The Seneschal is your powerful new toy Diablo 4 season 3, Season of the Construct, revolves around. The Seneschal is a small robot spider that follows you throughout the season and you can connect powerfully Governing and voting stones manage to customize your companion’s unique abilities.
In this Diablo 4 guide we will tell you everything you need to know about how to upgrade your Seneschal and explain how the Governing and Tuning Stones work.
How Tuning and Governing Stones Work Diablo 4
Your Seneschal is the chassis for your little robot companion in Season of the Construct, and you can use Governing and Tuning Stones to enhance and customize it in a variety of ways.
- Governing stones determine the skills your Seneschal can use
- Voting stones change how the Governing Stones behave
Your Seneschal has two slots for Governing Stones, and each Governing Stone has three slots for Tuning Stones. First place the two Board Stones you want to use, for example Bolt of lightningwhich launches a damaging bolt of lightning at your enemies – and Reconstructa healing power.
You can then assign a Voting Stone such as Delaying support – which turns the ability it is assigned to slow down targets – to Lightning Bolt. The next time your Seneschal casts Lightning Bolt, he will now slow targets. Likewise, if you use the Strengthen support By setting Tuning Stone to Reconstruct, this ability will also Fortify you the next time your seneschal uses it to heal you.
As you change builds over the season, you can also swap your Voting and Governing Stones at any time to create new ways for your Seneschal to support you.
How to upgrade voting and governance stones Diablo 4
As you play Season 3, you can also upgrade your Stemming and Governing Stones, making them more powerful and increasing their impact on your build. Tuning and Governing Stone start at rank 1 and you can level them all the way up to rank 10. The only exceptions are Every night And Genesisthe two unique voting stones, each of which has only one rank.
To increase the rank of your Voting and Governing stones, you must acquire duplicates of stones you already own. Each duplicate grants 10 XP to the skill it is a duplicate of, and once a stone reaches 30 XP it increases in rank and becomes more powerful. That means you need 300 XP (30 duplicates of a stone you’ve already acquired) to reach rank 10. With 25 Tuning Stones (minus the two Uniques) and 12 Governing Stones you have to more than 1,000 duplicates to fully utilize your Seneschal.
How do you even find Tuning Stones? There are a few different sources:
- Heralds of Malphas, which you can summon from the Braziers outside and around Vaults, can drop one or two Governing or Tuning Stones each time you summon them. Your best bet here is to find a group of players who are summoning them and stick around for as long as possible. The Heralds go down quickly and it’s an easy way to get some XP.
- Complete Vault runs is another easy way to get a voting or governance stone. A random one will drop from the last chest of the vault.
- Ward woven chests – which you can only open if you reach the end of a vault while the Zoltun’s Warding buff is still active – can drop additional Tuning and Governing Stones
- Your local jeweler sells one Uncertain Seneschal Stone Cache for 250 crushed stone and 36 iron chunks. These caches contain at least one board or voting stone. It’s possible that as you level up you’ll gain access to better, rarer, and more expensive caches that you can purchase from your jeweler.
- Caches for seasonal travel – the ones you get when you complete a chapter of the seasonal journey – are dropped tons of Governing and Tuning Stones to help you improve your skills. Unfortunately, there are only seven for the entire season, so while it’s a great way to kick-start your collection, you can’t rely on it for the long term.
