Adding two-factor authentication (2FA) to your Fortnite account adds a layer of security beyond just your password. You’ve almost certainly seen two-factor authentication (or multi-factor authentication) elsewhere – it includes everything from special authenticator apps to emails with a clickable link to those codes sent to your phone. It’s another way to verify that you really are yourself.
Enabling that second layer of protection is actually good practice to get started for all your accounts, but Fortnite gives you some in-game rewards for doing it. Us Fortnite The 2FA guide explains how to enable two-factor authentication and then we explain what rewards you get once you’ve done so.
How to enable 2FA in Fortnite
To enable 2FA for your Fortnite account (more specifically, for your Epic Games Store account), log into your account at the Epic Games site and click Password & Security – it’s the sixth link down.
Here you can change your password or log out anywhere. Scroll down to the bottom section to view the Two-factor authentication institutions.

You have three options:
- Third-party authentication app. This uses a special app like Authenticor the Google (Apple And Android), LastPass (which is a paid service), or Microsoft Authenticator apps.
- SMS authentication. This sends a code to your phone that you must enter when you log in.
- Email authentication. Similarly, this ends an email with a code for you to enter.
SMS and email are pretty straightforward – when you activate the option, a code is sent and you enter it. That turns on the 2FA and you just repeat that process when you log in.
The authenticator apps are a bit different. When you first activate it, you need to scan a QR code or enter a (very long) manual key to add Epic Games to the app. After that, when you sign up, all you have to do is open the app to grab the code. These apps generate new codes every minute or so, so you’ll need to have them open while you log in.
You only need to use these 2FA codes when you log in to your Fortnite (Epic Games) account from a new device or not logged in within 30 days.

In addition to peace of mind, Fortnite gives you some in-game rewards for activating 2FA.
In Battle Royale mode, you get the Boogiedown emote.
In Save the World mode you get 50 arsenal slots, 10 backpack slotsand a Legendary Troll Stash Llama.
