A savvy shopper has revealed why she always skips the big supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths and Aldi to buy her fresh fruit and vegetables.
The Melbourne woman recommended going to a local grocer for fresh produce to save on your grocery bill after she scored a huge load of fruits and veggies for just $26.
The money saver said there were bags of bananas, broccoli and bell peppers for just $2 each and that the money will go to a local business.
Hundreds were impressed by the woman’s budget, prompting customers from all over the country to share their own favorite small grocers they frequent to save a penny.

The customer said she found the deals at Bigfields Fresh Market at the Summerhill Shopping Center in Reservoir, Melbourne.
Fellow bargain hunters shared their amazement at the woman’s cheap store, saying they were looking for the best deals on healthy foods amid the rising cost of living and skyrocketing inflation.
‘Love me a Saturday morning farmers’ market! Always so much cheaper than the supermarket and usually fresher’, replied a mother.
“My local fruit and vegetable store is about to close, so sad. Looking for a good alternative in Perth,” wrote another.
“Yes, I love my local. I never spend more than $30 a week on fresh fruits and vegetables!” added a third.
Others shared their super-cheap fresh produce purchases with a mom who spent just $50 on her three-storey of cauliflowers, sweet potatoes, zucchini, onions, carrots, fresh herbs, and more at Victoria’s Dandenong Markets.

Many complained that they had tried small independent stores but found them to be more expensive than the big supermarkets, but some gave their best tips for finding the best cheap alternatives.
“For the people who say their local fruit and vegetable store is more expensive than supermarkets, mine could be too. I just make sure I buy what’s in season/special,” one woman suggested.
‘The quality is also so much better that the product lasts three times longer, which saves money if you don’t have to throw anything away!’
“Look for fruit and vegetable stores that are agricultural second-hand – the ones that aren’t pretty enough for the big stores,” suggested another.
“My favorite places are bucket sales where there might be a few bad ones in the bucket, but you’ll get more good than bad and the lot will be much cheaper than retail.”
