Photographer shares pose tip that will ‘cut the size of your arm in half’ if you stand on your side – sparking heated debate
- Wedding photographer shared how to pose to make arms look slimmer
- But the simple tip could quell the backlash from women
A wedding photographer has revealed how to pose for photos to make arms look ‘sleeker’ – but not everyone agrees.
Brittany from JBJ Pictures shared her simple tip that anyone can do whether you’re on your own or with someone else.
The method involves relaxing the arms to keep them looking less ‘squashed’.
“Ladies, remember this the next time you get your picture taken,” Brittany of San Francisco said in an video.
“If you push your arm out because you’re nervous, your arm will look bigger than it is.”
In the clip, Brittany recommends lifting the elbow out 5 to 10 cm so that it “immediately looks slimmer.”
But the suggestion didn’t go down well with everyone, and the photographer suffered some setbacks.

Many women quickly took offense at the photographer’s suggestion, arguing that there is nothing wrong with the natural body.
“Or we can just embrace how our bodies look natural and relaxed,” one woman wrote.
“Thanks for reminding me to tell my daughter to beware of the psychological impact of this well-intentioned but dangerous mindset. What’s wrong with a strong woman?’ said another.
A third added, “But I want my arms to look big.”
“Reminder that it’s okay for our bodies to do what they naturally do and we don’t have to pose to look smaller!” said another.
But others supported the photographer for “doing her job.”
Wow so many people triggered by someone who has very good intentions!! I appreciate it, thank you,” one person wrote.
“I think people are confused… There’s a difference between your arm looking tight/muscular in pictures versus being squished and just looking big and unflattering… I love this tip!” said another.
A third wrote: ‘There is a difference between muscular and flaccid. She’s trying to help those who want to take the picture they want.’
