If you’re just trying to load a new game of Zombies Modern Warfare 3, the game automatically places you (or you and your duo partner if you’re playing with a friend) in a team of three. There’s nothing stopping you from splitting off and abandoning your team. It’s a bit rude, though, because solo mode is much harder and is designed to keep players together.

Fortunately, freeing yourself from that social pressure is very simple. In the main Zombies lobby, before you press Start, look at the bottom left of the screen for a button that says ‘Shift filling.” Turn it off. You do this by clicking on it or pressing 1 Windows PCLeft trigger enabled Xbox consolesor L2 on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

If Squad Fill is disabled, you will only enter the game with your current team, meaning you will only visit if you are alone. Be sure to enable third person so you can view your own person next time.

Can you play MW3 Zombies on a private server?

Even if you play a game of Zombies alone or with a friend, you’ll still encounter other people doing missions, fighting zombies and trying to escape the world via exfil. You unfortunately can’t turn this off in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. The game mode is designed as an online multiplayer adventure – a major departure from most other Call of Duty Zombies experiences – and for that reason is unlikely to change.
