How to open the Warden Vault in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
You will find the “The Guard Vault” side mission Dragon Age: The Veil Guard as you explore deeper into the Rivain coast.
Far to the east of the map you’ll come across a ruined Gray Wardens castle. Inside that castle is a safe with plenty of loot – and three locks related to puzzles nearby.

How to start ‘The Warden Vault’ in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
It’s quite a walk to reach the castle, where you’ll find the side quest ‘The Warden Vault’. When you reach the front gate (portcullis) and the fast travel beacon there, you are in the right place.
Look at the portcullis and go right (west) and through two small doors.
On your left, use Taash’s ability to detonate the exploding pot against the wall. Go through the new opening, keep going south and up the stairs. At the top, turn left and climb the ledges as you return north. Take the walkway to the end and go through the door on your right.
Inside, throw the lever on your left to open the portcullis and drop the ladder on your right. Drop to the floor below and take out the trio of Antaam attacking you.
In the main room, look for a staircase leading down the right (west) side. Take them out and then use Taash’s ability to get through the sizzling Dragonstone crystals that block your way. Down the stairs and on the left you will find the beginning of the “The Guard Vault” quest, the sealed door and a note with your clue.
The only part that really matters in the note is the paragraph, “The seals are the key. Find the matching one and the door should open. They are hidden around the castle.’ However, that makes it sound a lot simpler than it is.
Warden Vault lock #1 solution: Correct lever order
Go back up and take the ladder you dropped back to the second floor. Go outside and drop to the courtyard below you. Directly behind you is a hallway blocked by a cart. Destroy the cart and go down the hallway to the end.
Clear out all the crates and barrels and you’ll find three levers on the wall. The left and right switches illuminate the two torches on the left and right respectively, and the middle lever illuminates only the center torch.

Go back outside and take two rights to work your way back to the (now opened) portcullis. Go through it and take the ladder up. This time you will see that the three mini-seals above the switch are lit. Throw the switch and go inside.
Open the chest on the left and then throw the lever on the right, which is under the large seal.
Fix for Warden Vault slot #2: All haunted locations
Head back down and head south, where you fought the Antaam earlier. Go through the door to the west and follow the hall to the left. When you come out, look to your right and you’ll see a stabbed skeleton surrounded by some glowing butterflies:
Examine it to start this puzzle. You must follow the ghost through three more locations around the castle in order.
For the next haunted location, return to the main hall and go back through the portcullis. Go left and return the way you came in a minute ago. This time, go right at the top of the stairs and duck behind the wall to find the second haunted location. You’re looking for the glowing green spot in the image below:
Turn around and return to the front gate (we’re tired of saying portcullis). On the way you pass the third location. You’re looking for the glowing green spot in the image below:
The last haunted location is inside. On the south side of the hall where you fought the Antaam earlier, you will find the ghost near the right (west) wall. You know the drill. Spot, glowing, green.
After you find the ghost in its final location, a secret door will open. Enter the room and throw the lever.
Warden Vault slot #3 solution: Where to take the will-o’-the-wisp
Return to where you first started following the spirit. A little further south you will find another corridor. Take that and continue south.
Eventually you’ll come to an open area full of Antaam. Clear them out and then head back to the statue overlooking the courtyard.
Look up and to the right to find an exploding pot. Hit it with Taash’s ability and you’ll knock over a ladder. Before you go upstairs, look to your right (north) to find the hall you came in from.
Enter and immediately turn left. At the back of the next room you’ll find a few more sizzling Dragonstone. Melt it and follow the hallway inside to the end. Smoke will tell you to find a will-o’-the-wisp. Let’s do that.
Return to the clearing and climb the ladder you knocked over. At the top you will find a will-o’-the-wisp waiting for you. Collect it and rush back to the waiting skeleton and lever.
Go all the way back to where you started the quest. This time you can simply open the door and claim the three treasure chests inside, plus a memento, which increases the Caretaker’s level. You also get 500 XP for completing the ‘Warden Vault’ quest.
