An Australian mom has revealed how she easily transformed her dirty and scratched dishwasher with just two products.
Natasha said the device worked fine, but the outside looked “old” and “worn” because it had gray marks on it.
She decided to use olive oil and Bar Keepers Friend on a microfiber cloth to remove the deposit – and in no time the dishwasher was looking like new again.
By sharing the before and after images with the Facebook group ‘Mums Who Clean’, the result was flooded with positive feedback.
‘We are finally renovating our kitchen and the dishwasher will feature prominently in the new design. My husband suggested we get a new one, but this one is here to stay,’ Natasha said.
Before: The dishwasher worked, but the outside was covered in stains and buildup
After: Using Bar Keepers Friend and olive oil on a cloth made the stains disappear immediately
‘I love it, but it is very old and, as you will see in the photos, very ‘worn’. After some research I decided to go for Bar Keeper’s Friend and olive oil.
“I just can’t believe the difference. I’m a little embarrassed I didn’t do this sooner! She’s still worn, but sparkling.’
In the comments, Natasha said she applied “a little bit” of each product to a cloth and then scrubbed until the stains were gone, continuing to add Bar Keepers Friend as needed.
The powder adhesive is a popular option for removing stains and soap scum from a variety of surfaces, including countertops, shower screens, sinks, and faucets.

“I use baby oil on my silver appliances. They come out beautifully. Well done with the dishwasher!’ someone else said.
Another wrote: ‘You have given me hope! We have this model and I’m going to try it.’
