How to make your cheap wine taste vintage – and avoid the headache the next morning! New device promises to remove hangover causing additives in seconds

There's nothing like a glass of wine to start the weekend, but the threat of a hangover can put you off.

However, there could now be a solution to banish those morning-after headaches for good – by infusing your wine with microbubbles of oxygen that remove sulphites and improve the taste.

Winewizard is an aeration device, invented by Michael Pritchard MBE from Colchester, that removes the impurities that make you feel rough after drinking.

And not only does it promise to reduce the effects of a hangover, Winewizard also claims it will make your Β£5 wine taste just a little more expensive – and has even fooled top sommeliers.

It claims to be the first device to mimic and accelerate the effect of traditional bottle aging of a wine – something that usually takes place over years or even decades in a cellar.

This means the wine can reach its 'optimal potential' within seconds, the brand claims.

The inventor spent two years developing the device before taking it out on the road to test it on the palates of experts.

How to use the Wine Wizard

Winewizard user guidelines
Wine type Glass 175 ml Carafe
Red wine 1-2 seconds 4-6 seconds
White and Rose 1 second 3-4 seconds

Before first use: Wash the micro diffuser under cold running water for 60 seconds.

  1. Insert the tube into the trigger
  2. Release the safety catch under the trigger – turn 90 degrees.
  3. Place the micro diffuser at the bottom of the glass or carafe.
  4. Using the timing guidelines above, gently press the trigger to generate millions of microbubbles. Let the wine bubble up – about 1 cm.
  5. Remove the micro diffuser and allow the bubbles to disappear.

These experts included Masters of Wine, the highest qualification available for winemaking expertise, and sommeliers from some of the world's best Michelin-starred restaurants. Mr Pritchard says the feedback has been 'universally positive'.

The device works using technology developed by Mr Pritchard called 'smart nano-oxygenation'. This increases the surface area of the wine 10,000 times and introduces micro amounts of oxygen.

The oxygen then reacts with the wine and mimics the aging process – improving the taste, aroma and perceived quality of the wine. At the same time, it neutralizes sulfite additives that can cause headaches.

β€œWe have developed breakthrough technology and techniques that have never been achieved before,” he said. 'We can now accurately replicate in seconds the effects of both hours of decanting and the years required for cellar maturation – and the results are nothing short of astonishing.'

Mr Pritchard added: 'If you have a panel blindly taste the same wine before and after it has been put up by Winewizard, they invariably think they are two completely different vintages – with the 'before' sample being young and cheap and the 'after' sample is young and cheap. It is usually assumed that it is an older vintage that costs two to three times more.

'It allows anyone without access to intimidatingly expensive cellars to experience good wine in seconds – and without spending a lot of money.'

Completely recyclable, Winewizard can treat as many as 80 bottles or approximately 500 glasses of wine before requiring a refill cartridge, meaning each treated wine costs just 12 cents per glass to use.

Dmitri Perlutchi, award-winning head sommelier at the Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Group, agreed that Michael's invention does what no other has ever managed before.

He said: 'I've tested these types of products before so I was skeptical it could make that much of a difference, but it's undeniable.'

Mr Perlutchi said it is “simply extraordinary” the difference in taste before and after using the Winewizard. “It really is an act of sorcery,” he said.

β€œIt's cleaner and more precise,” Mr Pritchard added. 'The palette is more delicate, rounder and you feel the age evolution in the mouth.

'The neutralization of the sulphites is particularly noticeable on the nose. I find it especially effective with those younger, more aggressively tannic wines. It really speeds up the maturation of the wine.”
