“Someone recently posted how they boiled their cleaning cloths in a pot of water with bicarb for 15 minutes and got great results,” she wrote.
‘Inspired, I tried this with a really coarse pillowcase….and added some Lectric [Washing] Soda too.
Then machine washed in my usual load of powdered linens and Napisan/Vanish Oxy, [then] line dried. I am very happy with the results.’
The mom shared a trio of images, including the disgustingly brown pillowcase and how filthy the water was during the cleaning process.
She added, “I want people to know that this cover has been machine washed many times with detergent and Napisan on our regular 40 degree wash.
“It was the cooking and then the washing that made it white again.”

“Hotel and hospital sheets and towels are boiled, that’s why they’re so white!” said another.
One woman said she uses this exact cleaning hack to “strip and sanitize” clothes and bedding.
Others said the method reminds them of the “old days” of cooking clothes on the stove to remove stains and odors.
“This is a trick from the granny generation and back in the day!! Brilliant hack! Well done!’ one wrote.
“Memories of my mother cooking tea towels and handkerchiefs every week,” said another, a third wrote, “Back to basics like our grandparents and great-grandparents did.”
