How to make a chemical-free cleaner to get rid of grease and grime and leave the kitchen shining

A cleaning guru has shared her handy recipe for a three-ingredient cleaner to get rid of grime and grease in the kitchen.

Chantel Mila, who visits Mama Mila online, uses a mix of vinegar, water and lemon juice to make her kitchen sparkle and remove grease.

The mother-of-two from Melbourne uses the concoction on her countertops, stove, backsplash, and even with a mop on her tall cabinets.

She said to use the recipe during a major clean-up to keep the kitchen grease-free and shiny in a video posted on her popular social media channels.

In a spray bottle, Chantel combines half a cup of warm water and a quarter cup of white vinegar and lemon juice.

She said it’s a “powerful” acidic mix that can remove stubborn kitchen grease and grime, leaving it shiny and deodorized.

‘The vinegar and lemon cut through grease in your hob, backsplash and cupboards! The lemon will make your kitchen smell fresh,” Chantel wrote.

“Always patch test as this acidic mix may not be suitable for all surfaces,” she added.

The nifty clip was viewed nearly 2 million times on Instagram and TikTok and stunned many of Chantel’s followers.

“My house always feels cleaner when I watch your videos,” said one woman.

“Have been doing this for years,” wrote another.

‘Isn’t the vinegar sour enough without adding lemon? I find lemon leaves behind a sticky residue,’ asked a third.

Chantel replied, “You can leave out the lemon if you prefer, or replace it with lemon essential oil.”

The mother previously gave her tips for mopping the floor so that it remains shiny and streak-free.

She shared a recipe for her DIY cleaning solution that she says makes her laminate floors sparkle.

Chantel uses a mix of hot water, dish soap, vinegar, rubbing alcohol and essential oil on her floors. She cautioned that people should do a patch test before using the homemade solution

Chantel uses a mix of boiling water, dish soap and white vinegar in her mop bucket.

She also adds a few drops of essential oil to make the whole house smell great and rubbing alcohol that makes the cleaner dry super fast and remove dirt.

Chantel said the solution works great on tile and laminate, but recommended a patch test to see if the mix would work on other floor types.

In a video posted on her popular social media channels, Chantel mixed three cups of hot water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and a teaspoon of dish soap.

She added two more optional ingredients, 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol and essential oil.

The mother said that rubbing alcohol helps floors dry faster and become streak-free, but that it is not suitable for all types of floors. It’s great for tiles and hybrid laminate floors.

She said it also removes hidden grime, while the essential oil makes the whole house smell nice.

“Be discreet if you have pets or small children,” she added.

‘Note: every floor is different, so check carefully whether this is suitable for your floor. Always patch test.’

To combine:

  • 3 cups of boiling water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tsp dishwashing liquid
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
  • A few drops of essential oil

Chantel’s video has been viewed more than 1.9 million times on Instagram and TikTok and has generated hundreds of appreciative comments.

“Try this!” one woman replied and another said, “I just used this little hack, thanks.”

‘Dishwashing liquid and vinegar are such a good combination with hot water,’ agrees a third.

“Mop the grain too, don’t cross,” someone added.

“Using natural products is always 100 times better than using chemicals, well done,” said another.

Others warned against using hot water and vinegar on hardwood and natural wood floors.

‘Hot water is not good for wooden floors. It expands and contracts making it easier to warp,” one viewer wrote.

“If those floors are natural wood, you definitely shouldn’t be using vinegar or anything acidic to clean them,” a second agreed.

‘Natural wood floors should be cleaned with a pH neutral floor cleaner. Otherwise the floors will become dry and porous.’
