How to get the Royal Guard Armor set in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Royal guard armour may not like the most impressive armor The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but it’s an easy – and cheap – way to keep Link safe early in the game. It does not offer any special bonus. However, it offers a bit more protection than the Hylian Armor set you can buy from Lookout Landing’s shop, meaning you can save your rupees for something useful later on.

Each part of the set – which consists of equipment for the head, chest and legs – has been localized at Hyrule Castle. It’s a bit of work to get to the floating castle, but collecting the set also gives you the chance to pick up weapons from soldiers and royal guards, which are far more powerful than anything you can get in or around Hyrule Field.

How to get to Hyrule Castle in Tears of the Kingdom

You can reach Hyrule Castle without increasing your Stamina, although you will need some Stamina Elixirs or Stamina Replenishment Meals. Cook at least three recipes that restore half or more of your stamina wheel or two that restore the whole thing.

Travel to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and launch yourself into the air. Once you regain control of Link, turn north and deploy your paraglider immediately. Glide toward the castle until you reach a safe landing spot, which will likely be the path just outside the Sanctum.

Head northeast, avoiding or jumping through gloomy puddles as you go, and make your way to the back of the castle, at Serutabomac Shrine.

The leg piece of the royal guard is located in the King’s study, a hidden room in Hyrule Castle’s library. Jump off the platform where the shrine is and turn around. Go through the doorway and go down the stairs.

It comes out in the library, and unlike in Breath of the Wildthere are no enemies here this time.

Jump down to the ground floor and turn around. Use Ultrahand to move the bookcase to reveal a small door to the King’s Study, where you can find the Royal guard boots, which grant +4 defense. Also grab the weapon and shield before you leave. If you’re early in the game, these are probably much more powerful than anything you already have.

The next piece is in Zelda’s room, and the easiest way to get there is through the shrine. You can quickly travel back to the shrine and travel to the shrine that way, or use your Ascend ability for a small shortcut. Exit the study, go to the other end of the library and use Ascend for the Gloom Pool. You surface near a rocky slope.

Climb it, slide to a small ledge under a stone arch and use Ascend again. You will come right in front of the shrine. Enter the shrine and turn left. Leave the window.

The chest containing the armor sits on a wooden platform over a giant gloomy puddle. You could risk walking through it and using Ascend to get to the chest quickly, but there is a safer way. Turn right and sneak across the platform until you reach the wall. The stairs are broken, but you can still climb the wall.
