How to get Motes of Light in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

What are Motes of Light in Destiny 2?

Motes of Light is one of the oldest currencies in Destiny and played an important role in the first game’s economy. In The final shapethey function more as a collector’s item.
Motes of Light come from two sources: Overthrow in the Pale Heart area, and the Visions of the traveler collectibles. When you collect your 17th Stift of Light, it will automatically turn into the Stift of Original Light, which you can take – along with your legendary Khvostov – to the old Speaker’s area in the Tower (where you first meet Cayde-6 in Final shape) and unlock the exotic version of Khvostov.
Unfortunately, that’s all easier said than done, as you have to get them all in a specific way, which involves a bit of luck.
How to get Motes of Light in Destiny 2

As mentioned, you get Motes of Light from two sources:
- Eight Motes of Light come from finding Visions of the Traveler collectibles
- Nine Motes of Light come from Overthrow, the endgame activity in the Pale Heart
Every time you collect a Visions of the Traveler collectible in The Pale Heart, a Mote of Light is automatically deposited into your inventory. If you have all eight visions, you should have that eight specks of light.

Additionally, every time you defeat a new boss in Overthrow you get a Mote of Light. In theory, you kill all nine Overthrow bosses and you’re done. In practice it is a little more complicated. There are three areas that spawn Overthrow, three bosses per area, and the boss that spawns at the end of an activity is completely random.
The best way to approach this is to team up with a few friends or like-minded players (the matchmaking hub is only active one area per day) to speed up the activity. Once you complete an overthrow, move to another spot in a different area of the map so you don’t waste time waiting for the activity to reset
