The only way to get an icebreaker in Lot 2 it’s over complete the Vesper’s Host dungeon, where it then has a chance to drop after completing the last encounterThe corrupt puppet master.

As with other raids and dungeons with exclusive exotics, the only way to get Ice Breaker is by luck of the draw. The weapon isn’t guaranteed to drop when you defeat the boss, so you may have to complete the dungeon a number of times before it’s yours – but know that since the weapon can only drop once per character per week, it’s something you can’t edit.

If you can’t wait until the next weekly reset, you can run the dungeon three times a week, once with each characterto maximize your chances.

Fortunately, there are some things you can do to increase the chances of Ice Breaker falling.

First of all, every time you defeat Vesper’s Host and don’t get Ice Breaker, your chances of getting the weapon increase. Basically, as long as you keep trying, it’s almost guaranteed that you’ll get it eventually.

Furthermore, you can complete Triumphs in the Vesper’s Host seal to improve your drop rate. These include:

  • Alone in the dark: Complete all encounters in Vesper’s Host solo without leaving the activity
  • Station Master: Complete Vesper’s Host on Master difficulty
  • Buried Secrets: Find all the collectibles in Vesper’s Host

Even with the above in place, it will probably take you a few completed runs through the dungeon to get the weapon, so grab your fireteam and get started.

Ice Breaker has changed quite a bit in the jump to Lot 2. Unsurprisingly, it’s not the simple, infinite-ammo sniper rifle it once was, but it’s not far off the mark.

The new intrinsic property, No backpackstates that “’last hits or assists with any other weapon or ability have a chance to create ammo for Ice Breaker. Defeating powerful fighters creates multiple rounds.”

This means you can still make ammo from scratch for Ice Breaker, but now you have to work for it. Between this benefit and picking up special ammo as normal, you should regularly find your icebreaker at a full 10-round clip. If that’s not enough, it has another unique advantage.

The namesake Icebreaker limitation defeated enemies with the weapon to explode. In fact, if you deliver a precise finishing blow or shatter a frozen enemy, it will cause inflammation and scorch nearby enemies.

All in all, this new version of Ice Breaker reinvents the classic in a way that makes sense for the modern game. It is absolutely powerful and a lot of fun to use. If you have the time and ability, definitely jump into Vesper’s Host and grab this weapon if you can.
