How to Get Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Sturdy fire pots And Sturdy oven pots are items in Old Ring‘S Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and they have one main goal: taking out Furnace Golems, which in turn yield Crystal Tears.

However, it is not that easy to get them, especially the latter ones, which are significantly more powerful.

This Old Ring guide will explain how to find the recipe books you need, the ingredients and where to get them – including Oven face — and how to use Hefty Fire and Furnace Pots if you have them.

Where can you find the recipes for the Hefty Fire Pot and the Hefty Furnace Pot?

To find the recipe books for both the Hefty Fire Pot and the Hefty Furnace Pot, you’ll need two different Greater Potentate’s Cookbooks. Luckily, they’re both fairly easy to find early on in the DLC, and don’t require you to kill any tough enemies.

The recipe for the Hefty Fire Pot comes from the Greater Potentate cookbook (1)which can be found in the Scorched Ruins, which is likely the first landmark you encounter in Shadow of the Erdtree.

If you look north, you’ll see a corpse on some stairs, with a few of the weak shadow enemies nearby. Kill them and loot the corpse for the first recipe book. This will give you the recipe for the Hefty Fire Pot. (While in the Scorched Ruins, a handy talisman, the Blade of Mercy, is very close by.)

The recipe for the Hefty Furnace Pot comes from the Greater Potentate cookbook (2)and you’ll have to get past the first Furnace Golem in Gravesite Plain to find him. (Don’t worry, you don’t have to defeat him first.)

Walk along the edge to avoid drawing attention and on the other side you’ll find the Three-Path Cross site of grace. To the northeast is the Ellac Greatbridge, but if you take the path that runs underneath it instead you’ll find the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook (2) at the Run-Down Traveler’s Rest directly beneath the bridge.

How to Make the Hefty Fire Pot and Hefty Furnace Pot

There is one key ingredient you’ll need in both large pots before you can make them: Solid cracked pots. Just like standard pots in the base game, the more Hefty Cracked Pots you have, the more Hefty Fire and Furnace Pots you can craft and hold at once. These aren’t easy to come by, but there is one area in Shadow of the Erdtree where you can find three of them quite quickly.

  • From the aforementioned Three-Path Cross site of grace, head northwest across a lake to find the entrance to Belurat Gaol. This is a fairly tricky location with only one site of grace at the very top, so be careful and watch out for the new pot-based enemies. Eventually, you’ll find a hole in the ground that you’ll need to descend into by jumping from one hanging pot to the next. You’ll see a wooden platform below it – jump onto it before you hit the ground to find the first Hefty Cracked Pot.

  • After this section you’ll fight across a bridge and as you cross the next path the floor beneath you will give way and you’ll fall into a maze of pots. There are plenty of enemies hiding behind corners here, but head to the northwest corner of the maze, climb up the first level of pots and you’ll find corpses with two Hefty Cracked Pots next to each other.

The only other ingredients you need to make Hefty Fire Pots are: Red meat mushroomswhich are everywhere in Shadow of the ErdtreeAnd Black Pyreflieswhich are a little less common, but still quite common. Look out for black versions of the Smoldering Butterflies from the base game. If you need to farm them, there is a small alley on the ground floor of the Scorched Ruins where one will appear every time you rest at the nearest place of grace.

How to Get Ember of Messmer and Furnace Visages for Sturdy Furnace Pots

For the Hefty Furnace Pots in particular you will need: Glowing glow of Messmer (which can only be found in the Scadu Altus region, which you can explore after Ensis Castle) and a Oven facewhich are mainly obtained by defeating Furnace Golems, so you need to defeat at least one An by using only standard attacks and Hefty Fire Pots at first.

You receive one Furnace Visage for each Furnace Golem killedso they are limited in number. However, you can also find a number of Furnace Visages scattered around the world as specific loot, specifically on dead Furnace Golems when you encounter them. There is also one that you can find in a chest, located in the prison in Fort of Reprimand, guarded by a number of soldiers.

How to Use Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots

As explained in our how to defeat Furnace Golems guide, these pots must be thrown into a Furnace Golem’s basket in order to deal damage. If you’re fighting one from above, you can do this mid-fight, but if you’re fighting one on the ground, you’ll need to either attack its legs or deal enough ranged damage to the weak spot on its face to knock it over. From there, you can throw the pots into the basket.

If you’re just getting started in the Realm of Shadow, our What to Do First guide can give you some pointers, like Scadutree Fragments, DLC Armor, and DLC Weapons.
