Golden eggs are a powerful smoothie ingredient The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomenhancing the effect of each drink. But they are rare and can be quite difficult to find.
In this The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom guide we explain what Golden Eggs do and also tell you where you can find some, so you can make as many golden smoothies as possible.
What are golden eggs in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
Golden Eggs are a smoothie ingredient. On their own, they restore two of Zelda’s hearts, but they should definitely be used in a potion, as they greatly enhance the effects of other ingredients.
Using a Golden Egg always produces a result Golden Smoothie. When mixed with a healing ingredient, the resulting smoothie will restore 20 hearts. In combination with an effect, such as increased swimming speed, that effect will last for five minutes. However, it doesn’t appear that Golden Eggs can be used to gain more Swordfighter form energy.
There are only a certain number of them in the game, so we recommend that you use them carefully. If you make many different types of smoothies with it, you can buy them from the smoothie vendors later, even if you don’t have the eggs to make them. (Although they cost as much as 300 rupees.) Golden eggs are also sold for 150 rupees.
However, in the rest of this guide, we’ll show you how to get as many as possible.
Where can you find Golden Eggs? Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Golden Eggs are usually found in dungeons and caves throughout Hyrule. Exploring non-essential paths and opening every possible chest is a good strategy for finding Golden Eggs. They are located in many dungeons in the main story, and can be found in a variety of side activities. Below we have listed all the Golden Eggs we have found so far.
Main Story Golden Egg Locations
You can find seven Golden Eggs in the main story dungeons. (For the best order to hit these dungeons, see our Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom walkthrough.)
Ancestors cave of tranquility
You will visit this cave as part of the quest ‘A Rift in the Gerudo Desert’. You can collect the Holmill Echo here, if you don’t already have it, so you can dig into the sand.
In the room immediately after you encounter the Holmill, dig into the sand at the leftmost point (shown above), where it extends further down than other spots. At the bottom is a chest containing a Golden Egg.
After getting your first small key in the Gerudo Sanctum while completing the main mission ‘A Rift in the Gerudo Desert’, you will find yourself in one of the 2D puzzle rooms with a rolling caromadillo. After you defeat the Caromadillo, summon one stone mill to dig through the sand to find a chest containing a Golden Egg.
If you don’t have a Holmill Echo the first time you visit this room, you can pick one up later in this dungeon and come back for this egg.
When working to activate the green switch in Jabul Ruins, after entering the 2D room, swim straight down. Remove the boulder on the leftmost shelf for a chest with a Golden Egg.
As you make your way through the Hyrule Castle dungeon, you’ll find a Golden Egg in the chest to the right of the boss’s key chest.
On the second floor of the Faron Temple is a large, oddly shaped room that is dark until you light all the braziers. If you take the central-west door, you will enter a room with a chest containing a Golden Egg.
There is a Golden Egg in the Eldin Temple, which you can find by following our walkthrough of the Eldin Temple.
There is a Golden Egg in Lanayru Temple, which you can find by following our walkthrough of Lanayru Temple.
Other Golden Egg locations
There are some Golden Eggs that you won’t find in areas you need to go to to complete the main story of Echoes of Wisdom. These are mainly located in caves and other mini-dungeons.
This cave introduces the Bombfish Echowhich is incredibly useful. Complete the cave to enter a room with a chest held by a wooden beam. You’ll have to use fire to break the beam, which is easier said than done.
If you have a high echo you may be able to light it with an ignizol, but what really worked for us was placing an igizol on the edge on the right, tie it, and then walk back and drop it into the water to lower it before finally returning to the wooden beam to set it on fire.
Once you drop the chest, you get yours Golden Egg reward.
The Graveyard Cave can be found north of Hyrule Castle. You must first clear the Stilled Northern Sanctuary Rift before you can enter. (Interestingly, if you enter the shrine after overcoming the rift, there is someone who will tell you about the existence of strange golden eggs…)
Head east from the area that covered the rift and light the braziers igizol to move the large gravestone.
Complete this Ghini-filled cave to find a chest containing a Golden Egg.
This ground entrance, located west of Hyrule Castle, leads to a swimming area and ultimately to a chest containing a Golden Egg.
Rewards for sidequests and other golden eggs
Some side quests and activities found throughout Echoes of wisdom will also reward golden eggs.
‘One soldier too many’
“One Soldier Too Many” is a side mission you can pick up from the guard to the right of the Hyrule Castle entrance after closing the rift there as part of the main mission.
Completing this side quest will reward you with a Golden Egg from General Wright.
You can collect stamps from various locations in Hyrule. If you complete the first card (which requires five stamps), the Stamp Guy will give you a second card with six spaces. If you manage to complete this, he will reward you with three golden eggs. For help locating these, check out our guide to all the stamp locations.
Acorn Gathering is a mini-game that you can play in a number of locations in Hyrule. For a Golden Egg, speak to the man in the acorn hat in the North Shrine. (You have to bridge the gap here first.) You have to get 11 acorns for the egg in 40 seconds – and you get 20 rupees also.
You can apparently earn 10 Golden Eggs by making all 69 smoothie and potion recipes in the game.
One last way to get Golden Eggs Echoes of wisdom uses amiibo. We discovered that if you scan a Zelda amiibo before beating Hyrule Castle, you can receive smoothie ingredients, including, on rare occasions, Golden Eggs.
