How to find Zelda’s golden horse in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

One of the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s best (and fanciest) horses is a golden horse owned by Princess Zelda. However, claiming the horse for yourself takes some work and overlaps with the Lucky Clover Gazette’s “Potential Princess Sightings!” they adventure.

Us Tears of the Kingdom Zelda’s Golden Horse side adventure guide walks you through the steps to find the side adventure at Snowfield Stable, then helps you capture and calm down the golden horse.

When you start exploring Tears of the Kingdom‘s Hyrule and visiting stables, you’ll find many people reading newspapers and talking about the Lucky Clover Gazette taking over (what used to be) Rito Stable.

When you get there, you can pick up various side quests and adventures. Start by talking to Traysi (and Penn) to get the “Potential Princess Sightings!” they adventure that will make you visit all the stables in Hyrule.

Go to Snowfield Stable

The nearest stable is the Snowfield stable in South Tabantha Snowfield op (-1642, 2566, 0234). The stable is located southeast of the Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower and right next to the Orochium Shrine. (There’s also a Great Fairy not far away.)

When you get there, look for Penn speaking to a stable attendant named Harlow on the east side (where the horses are kept). Harlow will explain that Princess Zelda’s golden horse that is normally kept in the stable has run away. (Side note: If you visit this stable before starting the “Potential Princess Sightings” side adventure, the horse will love eating hay there.)

Harlow informs that it is a scared horse galloped north and put you on the “Zelda’s Golden Horse” side adventure. She will also warn you about a huge monster heading that way.

Prepare to capture Zelda’s golden horse

Much of our general advice for capturing and taming wild horses also applies here. You will want meals and elixirs to increase your stealth food with “secretly” in the name and sneaky elixirs – to get close enough to catch the golden horse. And then you need stamina boosting foods and elixirs – stimulating meals and stimulating elixirs – to keep your stamina up while calming it down. The cooking pot is on the west side of the stable.

While you’re at it, it’s obviously cold out here in the snowfields, so spicy dishes and elixirs to increase your cold resistance can’t hurt. Or just buy the Snowquill armor set from Rito Village.

Finally, you have a good walk ahead of you, so visit the stable to take out your favorite horse.

The location of Zelda’s golden horse

As Harlow said, go north from the Snowfield Stable to find the golden horse. Not far past Orochium Shrine you can see the huge monster – a Frost Gleeok – on your left. Give it a wide berth unless you’re looking for a serious challenge.

Zelda’s golden horse will hang out with a herd of wild horses. If you upgraded your Purah Pad to have the Sensor+, switch it to search for horses to help you find them. You’ll find Zelda’s golden horse a long way to the north – just a little southwest of it Oshozan-u-shrine – in the North Tabantha Snowfield. We found it around (-1785, 3409, 0236).

The golden horse is a bit trickier to catch than other wild horses – if you get close it will run away before you have a chance to mount it. Instead of sneaking all the way, sprint the last few steps and mash a button to mount it.

The golden horse needs a little less than full stamina to calm down. Once things calm down, feed him some apples to bond with him and drive back to Snowfield Stable (don’t forget to avoid that pesky Frost Gleeok).

When you come back, talk to Harlow and Penn again. Harlow will give you the Royal bridle, Royal saddleand a stimulating elixir as a reward (and Penn gives you some rupees for your reporting).

After that, you’re free to register the horse for yourself (and name it) — which also earns you a pony point.
