How to defeat the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

The Scadutree avatar is a completely optional boss in Elden Ring‘S Shadow of Erdtree DLC, but you’ll have to go through most of the expansion to find it first. It’s basically the Scadutree equivalent of Elden Ring‘s Erdtree avatar, but I’d say he looks more like an Ulcerated Tree Spirit than anything else.

In this Elden Ring DLC Guide, we’ll first walk you through where to find the Scadutree Avatar. We’ll also tell you how to beat the scadutree avatar by showing you how to prepare, how to avoid his attacks and how to kill him.

The Scadutree Avatar is located northeast of the Shadow Keep area, where you will eventually enter the Scadutree Base region of Shadow of the Erdtree. Here you will find the Scadutree Avatar immediately east of the Albinauric’s Shack.

The Grace’s Scadutree base is the nearest rest point; both multiplayer Summoning and Spirit Summons are allowed for this showdown.

Scadutree Avatar Weaknesses and How to Prepare

You’ll encounter a lot of fire-based attacks from the Scadutree avatar, so I recommend equipping a talisman that boosts your resistance to fire. The Flamedrake Talisman +3 is an excellent example.

The Blasphemous knife can also be a treat against the boss, especially if you’re willing to get up close and personal with it, unleashing its special attack when wielded with two hands.

The Scadutree avatar deals heavy Bleed-based damage, which can quickly deteriorate your health. You’ll want to include either one talisman that prevents the build-up of bleedingor an armor that protects against it.

Finally, it goes without saying that this is self-evident the head is the Scadutree Avatar’s weak point. It doesn’t matter if you’re a melee user or a mage, you’ll want to aim for the Scadutree Avatar’s head to deal the most damage in the shortest amount of time.

The camera can be very tricky during the Scadutree Avatar battle. If you’re sitting on the boss’s head, you may not have a good view of the incoming attacks if you’re standing directly underneath the boss with the camera facing up.

Scadutree Avatar Boss Battle Phase 1

The Scadutree Avatar uses a lot of area-based attacks, and you’ll see one as soon as you enter the arena. When its two strange arms touch the ground, it shoots pointed branches towards you; you must roll through this attack to avoid it completely.

If you are close to the boss, which is where I would recommend staying, he may slam his head on the ground to try to crush you, but this is best avoided by rolling left or right while his head goes down. Additionally, he can swing his arms around once or twice in succession, and you’ll want to dodge sideways during these attacks, just like the main attack.

Scadutree Avatar Boss Battle Phase 2

In the second phase, the Scadutree Avatar crouches on the ground and glowing pools appear on the floor. When this happens, vines are about to spring up; you must remember the location of the vines and stay well away from them for the next few seconds as the attack unfolds.

The Scadutree Avatar can also send four beams of light at you when you are at a distance. For this attack, wait until the light beams approach you and then dodge to the right or left. Forward or backward is probably not enough in this scenario.

Watch out for the Scadutree Avatar shooting across the floor. It will combine for three of these attacks, essentially using its arms to quickly propel itself around the arena. Try to dodge the roll to the side, away from the main body, as it will shoot towards you.

Scadutree Avatar boss battle phase 3

In the third and final phase, the Scadutree Avatar can unleash a massive attack that essentially takes over the entire boss arena. There is literally no way to avoid this, except with absolutely perfect timing of a dodge roll so that you roll through the attack as soon as it is unleashed.

Finally, reducing the Scadutree Avatar’s health to zero will not actually end the battle! Once his health reaches zero, he’s open to a visceral attack to his head. If you don’t hit this, it essentially disappears and you have to exit and start the whole fight over. You will need to repeat this process at the end of each stage above.

Once the Scadutree Avatar is finally defeated, you’ll get a nice one 260,000 runesjust like the Commemoration of the shade sunflower, which you can take with you to the Finger Reader in the Roundtable Hold. It will also drop Miquella’s Great Runewhich can be used during the DLC’s final boss fight to negate instant death on a second consecutive grab attack.
