How to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood, in Elden Ring
Like many boss fights in Elden Ring, Mohg, Lord of Blood is a two-stage boss battle. In the first half, Mohg will deal standard and piercing damage with his trident, and attack with blood flames – a combination of fire and bleed damage that will build up over time. Make sure you have armor and talismans equipped that negate physical, fire, and blood-related damage.
For the second half of Mohg’s boss fight, when he reaches 50% health, he will cast Bloodboon Ritual. This spell will significantly heal Mohg and cause the player to lose blood, but there are ways to mitigate the devastating effect of Bloodboon Ritual with the right Crystal Tear.
There are multiple strategies for fighting Mohg depending on whether you’re a melee user or a fan of ranged magic, but here are some things you should keep in mind to make the fight easier.
Buy Mohgs Shackle
Mohg’s bracket behaves just like Margit’s Shackle: using this item will temporarily paralyze Mohg, a maximum of twice and only during the first phase of the right. Use the bracket to get a few free hits on the old Mohg.
Mohg’s Shackle can be found in Leyndell, the royal capital, in the underground sewers of Shunning-Grounds, where it is guarded by two giant crayfish.
Obtain the Purifying Crystal Tear
This Crystal Tear will clear the Lord of Blood’s curse in a mixed body, reducing the powerful, health-draining Nihil attack that Mohg performs when at half health. The Purifying Crystal Tear comes along Eleonora, Violet bloody finger at the Second Church of Marika on the Altus Plateau. This Crystal Tear pairs well with the Speckled Hardtear in your Wondrous Physick mix.
Bring much healing and prevention of blood loss
Mohg will drain your health with his Nihil spell, and you may have to chug your healing flask repeatedly to stay alive. It also causes bleeding (blood loss), and that has happened Strong boluses equipped or use the Invocation of the Lord to reduce the effect.
Use cold and blood loss effects
Mohg has a strong resistance to fire, so freezing and/or bleeding him may be the best option. With all the blood loss around Mohg, you may want to equip the Lord of Blood’s Exultation charm, which increases attack power (by 20%) when blood loss occurs nearby.
When in doubt: Mimic Tear
The ghost summon Mimic Tear Ashes provides a major distraction for Mohg, allowing you to attack him from behind and break his balance for additional damage. Or use the upgraded Spirit Summon of your choice. This is a judgment-free safe space.
