Midra, Lord of the Raging Flame is a hidden boss in Old Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree‘s creepy Abyssal Woods. This Lovecraftian boss has a few tricks up his sleeve—including Madness—that make this fight a real pain.
Us Old Ring guide helps you to defeat Midra, Lord of the Raging Flameincluding where to find them in Midra’s Manse and how to prepare for this boss fight.
Midra, Lord Of Frenzied Flame location in Elden Ring DLC
The path to find Midra is dangerous and long. This boss arena is located in the The rectory of Midra dungeon, an abandoned building in the southwest corner of the Abyssal Woods area.
In Midra’s Manse you must find the path hidden behind illusory walls and paintings to Room on the second floor Place of grace. In the next room you will find the boss in his original form. While you cannot summon any friendly NPCs to help you in this fight, you can use your Spirit Ashes.
Midra, Lord of the Frenzied Flame weaknesses and how to prepare
Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame is a fierce enemy, but it’s possible to use more than one strategy to defeat her. As a first step in preparing yourself for this fight, you’ll want to have your Scadutree Blessing at level 10 or higher — even at level 10, it’s possible to die after taking two or three hits.
Holy damage is a solid option here. You can take significant chunks off their health bar with these attacks. Prioritize weapons with fast casting abilities or give them Holy damage through Holy Fat.
Avoid using Fire damage, as the Lord of Raging Flame high resistance to fire damage. You will also have difficulty causing other harmful effects, such as Poison on the boss.
Instead, a good strategy is a Bleed build — Midra is more susceptible to blood loss build than other bosses in the DLC. Katanas like Nagakiba or Rivers of blood work well.
That stacks well if you also focus on breaking Midra’s position. This boss’s resistance to heavy attacks seems to be lower than the other bosses in the DLC, so it only takes a few hits to stagger them. Because of this, jumping attack builds, weapons infused with the Ash of War: Lionclaw, or double heavy weapon builds are quite effective against Midra.
Consider using weapons that can cause blood loss, such as Bloodhound Canine, Morning starsor the Bloodfiend’s Arm from the DLC to combine Bleeding with Stance damage.
Also look for skills and spells that allow you to shoot projectiles, which can stop one of Midra’s attacks.
While Midra is constantly performing Frenzied Flame attacks, getting Madness should only be a concern if you have a hard time avoiding them. If this is your case, all you need to do is use talismans or pieces of equipment to keep your Focus because it is the stat that increases your resistance to Madness. A few options are the Enlightening horn spell, the Spotted necklaceand pieces of the Prophet Set.
How to beat Midra in Elden Ring DLC
Midra is an intense enemy. They don’t have an extensive and complex moveset, but Midra’s are enough to kill you in a few hits. They have more than one way to close the gap between you, leaving you with few opportunities to pop a bottle and heal yourself.
Before the fight begins, you’ll only find Midra in their original form as a regular enemy. You’ll need to kill them to start the fight, but don’t underestimate them just yet – Midra can jump on you and take a large chunk of your health and also Shabriri’s Cry if you don’t stagger or kill them quickly.
The best approach is to attack them while they are still talking and stagger them. Once you defeat this first version, you will have time to use your Flask of Wondrous Physick or enchantments before the boss fight begins.
Midra Boss Fight Phase 1
During this phase, you will learn all of the basic skills and moves that Midra uses throughout the fight. Most of them are not difficult to dodge, but they are very punishing if you don’t. Your main goal is to escape Midra’s attacks and hit them as hard as possible within the few windows you have.
At the beginning of the fight, Midra always starts by saying a series of two The Flame Frenzywhich fires projectiles in a cone. They usually follow up this attack with a few Unbearable rage casts. Getting hit by them will damage you and build up Madness, so run or roll sideways to avoid them.
A strategy for this first part of the fight is to get behind Midra and throw a few punches. If you can attack Midra before she casts the first Flame Frenzy sequence, she won’t use Unendurable Frenzy.
In addition to the Frenzy spells, Midra has a set of deadly physical attacks to kill you easily. They tend to be a three-hit swing attack with a very slow animation but a long range. To avoid them, dodge in the direction Midra is swinging his weapon. The timing here is a bit tricky, but eventually you will learn the right moment to act. This attack has a variation, although it is not common to see it. In this attack, instead of three strikes, Midra will only perform one strike and then a dash attack.
After Midra is done sweeping their weapon around, you have a good window to attack them. Land a few hits and then get far away from them. Otherwise, Midra could use the knife in their left hand to stab you.
Most of the time Midra will use one of the two versions of their spinning attack. The first is a single slow spin. When Midra performs this, they come at you quite quickly and only attack you once. You can tell when they are about to use this spinning attack because they will go up into the air while spinning their body. The other variation of this move is when Midra is on the ground spinning their body three times in your direction. The last spins are faster, so keep that in mind when rolling out of them.
You don’t have to worry about the timing of your dodges as you try to escape the spinning attacks if you hit them during the animation. If you use weapons, spells or enchantments, you can hit them from far away as they fly or spin towards you, Midra’s attacks are interrupted.
The last move you need to familiarize yourself with during Phase 1 is the thrust attacks. Midra can use their bone greatsword to perform a single thrust attack, but there’s nothing special about this one. Just roll out of it and you might even be able to attack them back. The variation of this attack is much more dangerous, though. This time, Midra performs two thrusts and then their sword spreads out and causes an explosionTo dodge this attack, roll towards them and get as far away from Midra as possible before the second punch activates.
Midra Boss Fight Phase 2
Phase 2 of this fight begins once Midra has about 60% of their health bar. In addition to having all the attacks listed in phase 1 at their disposal, Midra will also start using various moves to kill you.
To mark the start of the phase, they will float into the air, attack, and after a few seconds launch themselves in your direction, causing a huge explosion and setting the room on fire. This is a new attack that Midra will use constantly during this phase. To avoid this, you can run or roll away from them before Midra hits the ground. If you can get close to them after the explosion, you will have enough time to attack Midra a few times.
The Flame bomb attack is Midra’s second area effect skill that can deal a lot of damage. They launch a fireball that will explode after a few seconds if it doesn’t hit its target directly. This is not a good time to get close to Midra to attack, because the area affected by the explosion is quite large. Get as far away as possible and be prepared for their next attacks.
from Midra Swinging attack gets a new variation in phase 2 where their greatsword is imbued with fire and each swipe is followed by a sweeping flame attack that covers the ground. This version of the swinging attack makes rolling towards Midra and reaching their back a safe bet. Once you get familiar with the timing of each swing, it’s easier to just roll out.
Phase 2 adds a stronger version of the Raging eruption spell to Midra’s arsenal of insane flame spells. They fire a barrage of fire projectiles in a straight line. Pay attention to when Midra’s head starts charging flames, as that indicates they are about to use Frenzied Burst. Running sideways is an easy method to escape this attack. You can try to get close to them while running away from the spell and get a few hits in before they start using another move.
In addition to all these new attacks, Midra begins the Golden Crux. This is Midra’s Greatsword of Damnation signature move where they jump up and stab the sword into the ground. After a second, they push the sword deeper, causing golden spikes to sprout from the ground around where Midra lands. While it’s easier if you just roll out of the first segment of the attack and run from there, this is a great opportunity to attack Midra if you can dodge the spikes.
With patience and focus, you can defeat Midra to Memory of the Lord of the Raging Flame And 410,000 runes.
