How to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Metyr, Mother of the Fingers is a whole handful of thanks for their arsenal of powerful attacks.

This many-fingered creature is found in the Finger Ruins of Miyr, a hidden area Elden Ring‘S Shadow of the Erdtree extension.

If you want to try out this boss fight, here’s how to achieve it The location of Metyr and how to defeat the finger devil.

Metyr Location in the Elden Ring DLC

Metyr, Mother of Fingers located under the cathedral of Manus Metyron the northwestern part of the Realm of Shadow map.

If you travel from the Moorth Ruins to Bonny Village and then take the road to the northeast, it will eventually lead you to the Cathedral. However, you will not be able to enter the boss arena unless you are far enough along Count Ymir’s questline.

If you haven’t started Ymir’s quest yet, this means you’ll meet him at the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, before exploring a series of sacred ruins from the Ruins Maps you’re given, which take you through areas like the Cerulean Coast and the Shadow Keep carries.

Once you’re done, return to Ymir and exhaust his dialogue, then “refresh” the location of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr by fast-traveling to the Site of Grace, and you’ll find that Ymir has disappeared. Interact with the empty throne to reveal a ladder; as you descend the ladder and ring the bell on the other side of the path, you will be transported to the ‘Finger Ruins of Miyr’, Metyr’s boss arena.

Be aware that the ‘Sword Hand of Night-Anna’ will attack you as soon as you descend the ladder. Your best bet is to defeat this elite enemy first, return to the Site of Grace in the Cathedral, and then fight Metyr.

Metyr Weakness

Although the hand-shaped Metyr is a fairly large boss, the Finger Ruins of Miyr provide plenty of room for a fight. Metyr causes physical and magical damage and is weak to bleeding (also known as blood loss or hemorrhage). Sadly, know that madness and sleep will not work with this boss.

How to Prepare for Metyr, Mother of Fingers

Here’s how to prepare for Metyr’s strengths and exploit the boss’s weaknesses:

  • Defend yourself from magical damage, mainly because it’s harder to dodge and block than Metyr’s physical damage. Available from Sellen’s quest, Lusat’s armor set had great magical damage negation. Dane’s set, which is found near Bonny Village in the Realm of Shadow, is even better, but it requires a secret teleportation chest hidden in Shadow Keep. It is highly recommended to also equip a Talisman with damage denial, such as the Spelldrake Charm +3which is found in a storage room in Ensis Castle.
  • Use Blood Damage. Metyr is susceptible to Bleed, so weapons with innate Bleed damage are an excellent choice for this boss fight. Rivers of blood katana (dropped by Bloody Finger Okina), the Bloodhoundtooth greatsword (dropped by Bloodhound Knight Dariwi), and Eleonora’s stick sword (dropped by Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger as part of Yura’s questline) are some of the best weapons to take with you. You may choose to use these Bleed weapons with two hands, as many of Metyr’s attacks are slow and easy to dodge. Alternatively, you can use Bleed-inflicting spells or incantations such as Briar’s punishment (Mountaintops of the giants), Bloodflames (Liurnia), or Swarm of flies (Mohgwyn Palace). Bloodborne arrows and bolts can help you administer Bleeding with a bow, while Blood fat provides an easy way to apply Bleed to a non-Bleed weapon. All three crafting recipes can be found in the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook (6). Finally, you get to throw some Swarm pots at Metyr to cause Bleeding; the recipe for this can be found in the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook (24).
  • Get impenetrable thorns. This bleeding-inducing sorcery is a new Shadow of the Erdtree spell and seems particularly effective against Metyr. You can find it on a corpse in the Shadow Keep’s Storehouse, on an outer ledge on the seventh floor.
  • Upgrade and equip some Spirit Ashes. Especially if your current build exploits Metyr’s weaknesses, one of the best Spirit Ashes for this boss fight is the Mimic Tear. You can find it behind a Stonesword Key seal in the Night’s Sacred Ground, on the Eternal City of Nokron map. As a tanky Spirit Ash that can inflict Bleed, the Manure-eater doll is also a good choice. You can buy this Spirit Ash from Seluvis, but you will have to do Seluvis’ quest and Ranni’s quest.
  • Equip suitable talismans. As mentioned earlier, the Spelldrake Talisman +3 is great against magical damage, while the Dragon Comb Shield Talisman +2 Significantly reduces Metyr’s physical damage (found on a corpse in Crumbling Farum Azula). If you use a Bleed strategy, The Joy of the Lord of Blood is great because it increases your attack power when Metyr bleeds. You can find this Talisman in the Leyndell Catacombs.

How to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers

To defeat Metyr in Old Ringit is important to recognize and avoid incoming attacks. This is what you can expect:

  • Slap and slam attacks: When you get close enough, Metyr will swing her forearms at you. Alternatively, she can slam one or both arms down on the ground in an attempt to crush you. This involves a rapid arm-slamming sequence that requires multiple dodges. That said, the arm attacks often provide an excellent opportunity to dodge to Metyr’s chest or side and land a few hits from there (preferably on the finger growth on her chest, which is her hair). weak spot). Be aware that Metyr can still hit you with her fingers (the fingers that grow on her sides) while you attack her flank.
  • Body blow: Metyr raises her head and lifts her front body. It will take a second for her to crash, which should give you enough time to dodge away.
  • Triple body slam: A rapid series of three body slams, including a head slam. Be prepared to dodge three times at the moment of impact to avoid all damage.

  • Finger spray: Metyr tears into her chest and squirts small fingers at you before charging in your direction. Be prepared to dodge the dash!
  • Call Finger: Metyr rips open her chest to unleash a flood of tiny fingers, then drops some finger minions onto the field. The minions are annoying but not particularly dangerous; defeat them when you get the chance because you don’t want to end up with a field full of minions.

  • Laser attacks: If there is some distance between you and Metyr, she will perform her laser attack (her head will start to glow) and unleash a purple laser beam at you. This can be a short beam or a longer beam that moves from right to left (from your point of view). This attack has a long range and you are unlikely to avoid it, so it is better to dodge through it to the right.
  • Glowing ground explosion: Metyr raises her head and slams it into the ground, causing the ground in front of her to glow and explode shortly afterwards. You may not be able to dodge in time, but there is a special trick to avoid damage; if you look closely, you can see that five lines have formed on the ground (from Metyr towards you). If you stay between those lines, the explosion won’t hurt you.

  • Floating shockwave attack: Once Metyr has lost about 50% of her HP, she begins to float before dealing magical damage in a large radius around her. You can duck to avoid the initial damage, but be careful of the final shockwave from her tail; you must dodge shortly before impact, when Metyr raises her arms.
  • Floating laser attack: In the second phase of the battle, Metyr can levitate again, dealing magic damage in an area around her and moving a laser beam across the battlefield. You’ll need to back away from Metyr to avoid the initial damage, and then stay in the area between the whirlwind and the laser beams – it seems nearly impossible to completely dodge this attack, so make sure you have near full HP when it starts, and be ready to heal right after.

  • Spinning aerial attack: When she’s low on HP, Metyr can rise up, spin around while in the air, and crash down on you. The crashing part is pretty sudden, so you may want to avoid or block this attack instead of trying to dodge it.
  • Magic balls: When low on HP, Metyr can float up, raise her arms, and summon glowing orbs onto the battlefield. The orbs will appear at your current location, where they will explode after a few seconds. Luckily, you can easily avoid taking damage by running away and leaving the trail of orbs behind you.

The reddish cluster of fingers on Metyr’s chest is her weak spot, so if you’re using a melee build, try to hit it whenever you can, preferably with jump attacks. It’s a little easier to dodge her attacks to the side and hit her in the flank instead, but keep in mind that her HP will take much longer to deplete.

A ranged build won’t allow you to spam hits against Metyr’s weak spot as a melee fighter, but it’s still a viable option if you use Spirit Ashes to distract Metyr. It’s not too hard to find enough charge time, since Metyr’s attacks are quite slow. If you’re still having trouble against Metyr, consider the Impenetrable Thorns sorcery mentioned in the “prepare” section above.

Defeating Metyr will reward Mother of Fingers with 420,000 Runes and the Metyr, Mother of Fingers Commemoration. From here you are now free to proceed and complete Count Ymir’s questline.
