How to breed friends in Palworld
All friends inside Palworld can breed with each other, meaning there are thousands of combinations in the game that spit out different friends depending on who you set. In brooding Palworld is not super complex, but you do have to think carefully about what you breed to get the results you want.
There are also some subspecies of Pals that you can get almost exclusively from breeding.
To start breeding Palworld, you need a breeding farm, some cake and two friends. Below we explain how Palworld breeding works and how to unlock breeding, listing some breeding combinations that result in subspecies.
How breeding works in Palworld
After building a breeding farm (see below), place a female and a male friend on the farm, together with at least a cake in the chest attached to the farm. For each pie in the box, the two friends produce one egg. Any cake placed in the farm box won’t spoil (like food usually does), so you can make tons of cake and leave it in there.
Any friends you breed have a chance to pass them on passive skills. So if your friend has the ‘work slave’ skill, chances are their child will too. It’s not guaranteed, but this is a good way to breed particularly powerful friends. You can see our example below, in which our Menasting child took on traits from his parents (Elizabee and Helzephyr), while also gaining his own trait of ‘conceited’, which did not come from either parent.
The Pal that hatches is not random, but comes from an in-game formula where each Pal is assigned a hidden power level value. While I won’t go into the details here, you can see more explanation on the Palworld Wikibut just know that it essentially prevents you from being able to farm two early game friends and get one end game friend.
Once all the friends have finished incubating, they will produce an egg that you can insert into an egg incubator for eggs.
How to unlock breeding in Palworld
Once you reach level 19 you can use the breeding from your technology tree. It takes 100 wood, 20 stone and 50 fiber to build one.
Keep in mind that the breeding farm is quite large, so if you haven’t built your base on a flat area, you may have a hard time finding a spot for it.
How to make cake in Palworld?
You’ll need to make flour, so make sure you make one mill, which unlocks at level 15. Build one with 50 wood and 50 stone. Add the wheat you grew using your wheat plantation (another level 15 unlock you need to build to upgrade your base) to make flour.
At level 17 you unlock one cooking pot, which can be built with 20 wood, 15 blocks and 3 flame organs. you need this is to make cake, as it cannot be made over the beginners campfire.
Once you have all that, you can make a cake in your crock pot five flour, eight red berries, seven milk, eight eggs and two honey.
You can get it Honey of capturing or killing Cinnamoths, but we recommend capturing a Beegarde or two and placing them on a ranch near your base, as they will constantly produce honey for you. The earliest place we could spot a Beegarde was north of the Lake Center rapid travel pointmarked below:
There are significantly more Beegarde if you keep traveling north towards the second boss tower (in that snowy area on the map above), but they will be at a higher level, so be careful.
Palworld breeding combinations
There are so many breeding combinations in this game I think if we listed them all the spreadsheet would crash the page. So instead of us doing that, we’ll refer you to this great breeding calculator created by blahable on Reddit. This contains all the information you need, whether you’re trying to figure out how to make a specific friend or you’re trying to figure out what two friends would make.
However, if you are just looking for a list of the combinations you can get Pal subspecieswe got you:
