How to beat Gloom Hands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

While exploring Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you may see misplaced pools of gloom on the surface. As you approach each one you will see a group of dark hands with an eye in the middle.

The so-called Gloomy hands (aka “red hands” by players, and officially known as Gloom Spawn by the game) will attack you with their deceptively fast speed and grab you, destroying your heart as they go.

The Gloom Hands are terrifying at first – as seen in the Lost Woods and the Korok Forest of Gloom – but if you’re prepared, you’ll soon learn there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Here’s how to beat them.

How to beat Gloom Hands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Gloomy hands are exactly what they sound like – dark red hands covered in gloom. They’re scattered all over Hyrule, but generally you don’t know you’re going to fight them until it’s too late to return.

On the way to battle, we recommend that you prepare a few items to take them out. Be here some of the best weapons and items to use against Gloom Hands:

• Bomb flowers
• Elemental Chuchu jelly
• Elemental Like stones
• Elementary Keese Eyeballs
• Magic rods

As fast as the Gloomy hands start crawling out of their hole, prepare your weapon of choice. We’ve found that it takes about six bombshell arrows to defeat all hands, but if some are still alive after that, use one of the weapons listed above to take them out. Once you disable them, a Phantom Ganon will spawn in their place. When you’re up for the challenge, put on your shield and get ready to block!

Tips and tricks to beat Gloom Hands

Gloomy hands can be tricky to beat, even if you are prepared. Here are a few extra tips and tricks to get rid of the pesky found hands in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

• Climb to higher ground — Gloomy hands won’t follow you to higher altitudes, so you can escape their range and rain fire from above.
• To rest gloom resistance armor — The fixed bonus of the Depths Armor makes you more resistant to dismal attacks, negating some of the damage you take when you get grabbed by the hands.
• Shake your analog sticks as quickly as possible – If you get caught by the Gloomy hands, wiggle your sticks chaotically to avoid losing hearts. If you’re fast enough, none of your hearts will break and you’ll break free from the clutches without taking any damage.
• Cook sunflower dishes — Sunflowers are commonly found on Sky Islands and they will replenish your gloom-induced hearts. If you lose a few of your hearts, replenish them with a sunny dish.
• To make gloom resistance dishes or elixirs — Gloom resistance dishes and elixirs can be made using dark lumpswhich you can get from Bargainer statues for 10 puss each or as a drop from Phantom Ganons.
• Quickly kill all five Gloom Hands — If you don’t quickly eliminate all five Gloomy hands, they start respawning, and they respawn quickly. Make sure you don’t leave any stragglers behind as one hand quickly becomes five.

• Run away if you are not prepared — You can always leave and come back if you don’t think you’re ready to take on the challenge. Remember there’s a Phantom Ganon waiting for you after the Gloom Hands, so if you don’t think you can handle them both, there’s no shame in running!
