Chiefs general manager Brett Veach opened up about Travis Kelce’s surprise onstage appearance with Taylor Swift — and how key figures in Kansas City found out about it.
In June, the tight end appeared alongside Swift at Wembley while following his superstar girlfriend on her worldwide Eras Tour.
Many fans didn’t immediately recognize Kelce, who was dressed in a top hat and a tuxedo as he performed “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
According to The AthleticsNeither Veach nor anyone else in Kansas City knew the 34-year-old would appear on stage.
The CEO was on a family vacation when his phone suddenly started ringing with one text message after another.

Veach reportedly wondered if something had happened to one of his players or if someone within the organization needed his help.
Instead, Kelce carried Swift on stage in front of 90,000 fans in London.
“He’s a showman,” Veach told The Athletic. “He just has a natural ability to perform for people. Obviously, we benefit the most from him doing that on Sunday.”
He added: ‘It’s funny because when you see those clips of him touring with Taylor, it looks like he’s been working on that show for months.
“But it was that one day, and he just looks natural. It’s a gift that he has.”
“He has a natural talent for performing in front of a crowd,” Chiefs GM Brett Veach said
Kelce later revealed how his cameo came about, telling his brother Jason on their New Heights Podcast, “She found the perfect part of the show for me to come in… it’s such a fun, playful part of the show.
“It was the perfect time for me to go out there and just be a ham and have some fun and try to get everybody excited for the rest of the show. It was awesome.”
Kelce continued, “That moment was pretty shocking. I was just like, ‘Oh s***!’ You don’t realize how big that f***ing stage is. I didn’t let Taylor down. That’s all that really matters.”
Kelce is now back in Kansas City preparing for the start of the new NFL season, which kicks off on September 5 with a game between the Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens.
