How social media reacted to Donald Trump’s monumental day in court

Meme makers had a field day when former President Donald Trump was arrested in Manhattan on Tuesday on multiple counts of false business dealings.

Multiple memes mocked Melania Trump’s notable absence from Trump’s rally held Tuesday night at Florida’s Mar-a-Lago, comparing her to Julia Roberts singing in a bathtub in the movie Pretty Woman.

Another showed Donal Trump Jr. who read a children’s book called “The Night Dad Went to Prison,” and a third showed a forecast calling for “mostly stormy” weather Tuesday with a photo of Stormy Daniels — the porn star to whom Trump’s silent payments led to his impeachment — instead of a cloud icon.

Not all of the memes scoff at the Trumps, however, with some commenting on how the former president’s arrest would bolster his supporters in a way never before collected.

Trump was charged Tuesday with 34 felony Class E felonies of falsifying business records by allegedly misclassifying payments to his attorney, Michael Cohen, as being for legal services when in fact they were repayments for hush money bills. The 76-year-old appeared before a judge in Manhattan today, where he pleaded not guilty on all counts, before returning to Mar-a-Lago.

Melania Trump was conspicuously absent from her husband’s side on Tuesday as he delivered a defiant speech at Mar-a-Lago condemning the New York prosecutor and judge presiding over his indictment.

The former president was supported by three of his five children – Don Jr, Eric and Tiffany.

Teenage Barron is rarely seen, and Ivanka Trump — who previously played a pivotal role in her father’s political career — announced before Christmas that she would have no part in his new chapter.

But Melania Trump’s absence was strongly felt, especially considering she was only seen at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday.

Hours after the charges were announced, she stood by her husband’s side in a very public show of strength. The pair dined with friends at their usual high-visibility table at Mar-a-Lago.

But on Tuesday, she was nowhere to be seen.

Some speculated that her absence was due to the nature of the charges and that the fact was related to allegations that he cheated on her with Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

Before the charges were announced last week, a source told PEOPLE that Melania, 52, is “living her own life” and “still feels happy” at Mar-a-Lago, but remains “angry and doesn’t want to hear” about the alleged $130,000 in hush money to Daniels.

An insider told the magazine, “They weren’t expecting it [the indictment], but Melania will support him. That’s what she does. They’re a family.’

Another said her focus is on 17-year-old Barron.

“She is aware of who her husband is and keeps her life cheerful with her own family and some close friends,” one of the insiders added.

Donald Trump used his speech to tear up the New York judge and prosecutor who oversaw his indictment on Tuesday, going after Judge Juan Merchan’s family and calling Alvin Bragg a “criminal.”

In an outburst of anger during his 25-minute remarks to a packed crowd of family and supporters at Mar-a-Lago, Trump hinted at his frustration over the matter.

He slammed down his legal opposition, despite a warning from Merchan to use his words carefully to avoid a gag order.

The former president described his enemies as a “Trump-hating judge with a Trump-hating wife and a family whose daughter worked for Kamala Harris,” drawing moans from the crowd.

Trump also said the real criminal in the case is Bragg, accusing him of leaking grand jury information.

“The criminal is the prosecutor for illegally leaking massive amounts of Grand Jury information that would require him to be prosecuted, or at least resigned,” he said jubilantly.
