How outrageous movie Saltburn is giving a boost… to Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Iconic track Murder on the Dancefloor rises in the Spotify charts as Gen Z discover singer after song was used in THAT full frontal scene

Scandalous film Saltburn gives an unlikely boost to Sophie Ellis-Bextor after her iconic song Murder on the Dancefloor was used in the full-frontal final scene of the psychological thriller.

The 44-year-old singer was beaten to the top spot by Daniel Bedingfield's Gotta Get Thru This when the song was originally released in 2001.

But more than two decades later, the song has climbed the Spotify charts and is about to break into the top 10 thanks to Gen Z discovering the singer.

The song broke into the top 20 of Spotify's UK chart on Friday and has risen to 12th today – and now fans are vying for Ellis-Bextor to claim the top spot she says she originally deserved.

Her famous hit was used in the final scene of the Emerald Fennell-directed film, which sees Barry Keoghan's character Oliver Quick dancing completely naked.

People have called on X, formerly Twitter, for the song to finally reach the top of the charts.

One person said: 'Should have been number 1 the first time but it's had a long life. It never gets old!'

While a second said: 'Yes, definitely should have been number one the first time. I love that this is happening!'

Ellis-Bextor celebrated her newfound fame in a new TikTok video in which she mirrors Barry's moves while wearing a beautiful mukti-colored sequin dress with antlers on her head.

In the video, she kicks and wriggles down the stairs in time to the song.

She spoke to Pink news in November about the use of her song in the film saying, “I really loved the movie. It's funny because whenever you're asked if a song is involved with anything, you always get a little synopsis or a rough idea of its placement.

'I just thought it was brilliant. It's so beautifully shot. The script is bouncy and fun, sharp and witty, and then you get someone dancing completely frontally naked to my song,” she laughed.

'I can't wait for more people to see it. It's quite an unexpected moment.'

Saltburn tells the story of Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan), a boy from a seemingly working-class Merseyside background who, desperate to fit in with the cool kids in Oxford, befriends another first-year student, the scheming, popular, wealthy Felix Catton ( Jacob Elordi), with whom he quickly falls in love.

Felix takes him to his family seat – the eponymous Saltburn – for the summer, where Oliver meets his family and becomes embroiled in their bizarre aristocratic lives.

The commentary and pacing of the lesson received critical acclaim, and the show landed on Amazon Prime shortly after it hit theaters.

But people have now shared their regrets about watching the film with their families as it contains many extremely explicit sexual scenes.

Dozens of people have used X, formerly known as Twitter, and TikTok to share their mistake.

One person described those who watched the film with their families as “braver than Marines,” while another joked that they timed the scene so that their parents were coming home from Mass during one of the most shocking parts.

Another film fan from California uploaded a video to Twitter of her meeting Margot Robbie, who worked as a producer on the film.

In the video Margot says 'don't watch it with your parents'.

“I've been meaning to watch Saltburn all holiday but I have NO relationship with my parents for that level of family movie night,” one person wrote.

“Pray for me, about to watch #Saltburn…with my parents,” another added.

“Saltburn is trending… a warning not to watch it with your grandparents, parents or children,” said a third.

And following the film's release, Sophie Ellis Bextor claimed her song as she mirrored Barry Keoghan's moves in a new Tik Tok video

But unlike Barry, the 44-year-old singer remained fully clothed for her routine, after the lead actor - who plays Oliver Quick in the film - stripped off for the scene.

“A funny prank you can play on people you don't like is to convince them that Saltburn is a heartwarming movie they should watch with their parents over the holidays,” another added.

'Salburn is now streaming on Prime Video. Please don't watch with your parents,” someone said.

Carey Mulligan, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant and Archie Madekwe also star in the Amazon Studios and MGM Studios project, produced by LuckyChap Entertainment – Margot Robbie's production company.

In one stomach-churning scene, Oliver sneaks into the bathroom to perform a vile act after Felix has had a bath, while another scene shows Oliver performing a sex act on Felix's sister Annabel (Sadie Soverall) while she is on her period .

And in the most shocking scene, Oliver has sex with Grave.

Saltburn is written and directed by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell.

Emerald previously wrote and directed Promising Young Woman; she won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for Best Director and Best Picture.
