How many lightroots are there in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

The Depths, into the lower layer of Hyrule The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is a dark world that reflects the Surface level. The darkness is full of bleak enemies, lost treasures and the menacing Yiga clan, all of which are nearly impossible to spot unless you’ve activated the nearby lightroots. Light roots work similarly to Skyview towers in that they reveal part of the map, but there are many more of them in the depths.

How many lightroots are there in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

There are in total 120 light roots in the depths. Each lightroot has a corresponding shrine that can be found directly above it on the surface. If you look closer, you’ll find that the name of each lightroot backwards is the name of the corresponding shrine. For example, the Jiosin Shrine is located above the Nisoy Lightrootwhile the Susuyai Shrine above the Iayusus Lightroot.

How to find light roots in the depths

The easiest way to find a lightroot is to find its shrine counterpart and then head to the same location in the depths. However, some lightroots, such as the Apapes Lightroot in the Central Hyrule Depths, can be particularly hard to find due to the layout of the Depths.

Water features on the surface create walls in depth, so certain areas are completely walled off. You need to find the specific canyon entrance to enter those areas, and they can be hidden in a cave, locked behind a quest, or even located under an entire village. If you’re having a hard time revealing part of your depth map, note the area on the surface and remember that depth is just a mirror of what you can see on the surface.

Vehicles are your friend in the depths! The incredible hover bike is just one example of a vehicle that allows you to traverse the darkness with ease. Attach two slanted fans to a joystick (as shown in the image above) to make your own fan. If you see an orangish orb in the distance, this nifty thing will easily take you there as long as you have the energy cells.
