How Kamala Harris is rewriting the story of where she REALLY grew up… while Fox News’ Jesse Watters pulls out her birth certificate to ‘prove’ she’s not from Oakland

Vice President Kamala Harris is being criticized for “rewriting” her story about where she really grew up in Northern California, claiming she comes from a more moderate background.

The presidential candidate speaks fondly of her upbringing in Oakland, California, but she spent most of her childhood and early school years in Berkeley, a city with more left-wing connotations.

During her presidential nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week, Harris talked about her mother renting an apartment in “the East Bay.”

“In the Bay, you either live in the hills or the plains,” she said. “We lived in the plains, a beautiful working-class neighborhood with firefighters and nurses and construction workers who all took pride in tending their lawns.”

According to the New York Times, Harris didn’t officially move into the Oakland apartments until she was in her 20s.

Although she was born in an Oakland hospital, her birth certificate lists an apartment building near the University of California, Berkeley, where her parents received their doctorates.

Harris occasionally speaks vaguely about her upbringing, probably in an attempt to identify with the modest middle-class life, rather than the privileged life as the child of Berkeley academics.

Harris also eluded her identity in Berkeley when she held her first official opening rally in Oakland for her failed 2020 presidential campaign.

“I’m so proud to be a daughter of Oakland, California,” she said. “And as most of you know, I was born right next door at Kaiser Hospital.”

In her 2019 memoir, Harris wrote that she “spent the formative years of her childhood on the border between Oakland and Berkeley.”

But Harris grew up in Berkeley and attended Berkeley public schools.

She also participated in a busing program that moved her school to a more affluent part of town.

Oprah Winfrey mentioned Harris’ participation in the busing initiative during her speech at the DNC. She noted that Harris “was part of the second wave of integration of public schools in Berkeley, California.”

Stacey Johnson-Batiste, a close friend from childhood, published a book in 2021 about her relationship with Harris and ‘The Berkeley Village that raised Kamala and me.’

During the DNC, Harris also avoided any reference to her upbringing in Montreal, Canada.

Harris’ mother moved 12-year-old Kamala with her family to Montreal to teach at McGill University’s medical school and work as a researcher at the prestigious Jewish General Hospital.

Kamala Harris spent her formative teenage years in Montreal and graduated from high school at age 17.

She then moved to Washington DC to attend Howard University before returning to California.

Harris didn’t officially move to Oakland until 1993, when she bought a one-bedroom apartment while working as a district attorney for Alameda County.

Harris’ life story caught the attention of Fox News host Jesse Watters, who listed Harris’ family address on her birth certificate.

“Did you know Kamala Harris didn’t grow up in Oakland, like she always said?” he asked his audience on Jesse Watters Primetime.

Watters presented a New York Times article examining Harris’ ties to Berkeley and her efforts to obscure her upbringing in a city known for its left-wing activism.

“Kamala Harris grew up in Berkeley, the “People’s Republic of Berkeley,” “Berserkeley,” the most insanely liberal district in America,” he continued.

“Her birth certificate lists an apartment near the Berkeley campus,” he noted.
