A wildlife expert has revealed a simple hack to get rid of pesky flies in your home this summer.

Australia has been awash with flies lately due to the approaching warm weather, and millions of people have been looking for solutions to keep the winged horrors at bay.

One way to ensure that the flies stay out of your home is to set up a fly trap outside, which will attract the insects from your kitchen and family.

Tiffany from Perth bought a hanging fly trap and used rotten fruit as bait.

Flies are attracted to rotten fruit more than any other substance because of its high concentration of acetic acid, one of the main products generated by fruit fermentation.

Tiffany’s clever hack caught hundreds of flies and kept them out of her house.

‘Well done! There are no more flies swarming my backyard,” she said. “These things are great.”

Many were grateful for the woman’s helpful tip.

“Wow thank you!” said one. “I definitely have to try this, I’m going to be eaten alive.”

“I do something similar with a Coca Cola bottle – works wonders too,” another shared along with a photo.

But some feared flycatchers would make the problem worse.

‘What if I attract flies from a distance of 10 km?’ someone asked. “I want a flycatcher for the flies that are already bothering me, I don’t want their comrades getting there and out of the way.”

“I think I really wish winter would last a lot longer,” complained another.

Some criticized those who wanted to hurt the ‘poor, innocent’ creatures.

‘Only as a precaution: flies pollinate many plants. European bees are now endangered, we may soon have only native bees and flies,” said one.

‘Flies perform many important ecosystem functions. I have seen many of the traps posted. People can be so selfish,” one man wrote.
