Liverpool squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead in their Premier League match against Newcastle when Mohamed Salah missed his first-half penalty before Trent Alexander-Arnold fired over the bar from the rebound.
The Reds started at the top of the table, looking to extend their lead at the top to three points over second-placed Aston Villa.
And they had a brilliant chance to break the deadlock after just 20 minutes when Luis Diaz was brought down in the penalty area by a challenge from Sven Botman.
Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp's side, Salah's sports kick was saved by Martin Dubravka – his fourth failure in his last ten attempts – before Alexander-Arnold fired his effort high over the bar from point-blank range.
Reds fans were quick to react to the two misses on social media, with many particularly perplexed at the way the England international had muddied the follow-up.
