How Grimace saved the New York Mets… now on a six-game win streak since McDonald’s icon threw first pitch
The New York Mets are on a six-game winning streak and look in the best shape they’ve been in years after a 14-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday night, and they have Grimace to thank for that.
That’s right, the round, purple McDonalds mascot who is friends with the Hamburglar and Ronald McDonald is the good luck charm for the pro team from Queens.
How come? Even if Citi Field has golden arch locations inside?
On June 12, Grimace threw out the first pitch in a game against the Miami Marlins. The pitch itself was terrible, as Grimce stood at the base of the mound, as opposed to the rubber, and the pitch jumped out of the strike zone and into the batter’s box in one bound.
Still, the Mets haven’t lost since, starting with a 10-4 against Miami on the day of Grimace’s pitch.
Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets are now on a hot streak with six straight wins
Grimace, McDonald’s popular mascot, threw out the first pitch during the Mets game on June 12
New York was 28-37 before Grimace’s first pitch, and now it’s three games under .500.
The Mets won the next day, taking a series against the Marlins in a crucial battle for positioning in the National League East.
Then came a home game against the San Diego Padres, who still have some serious firepower with Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado.
New York won those games 11-6, 2-1 and 5-1.
Last night’s 14-2 drubbing of the World Series champion Texas Rangers was the first road victory for the Mets in their current win streak, with two games remaining at Globe Life Park before a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs begins.
The Mets showed some life to save their season before Grimace came into their lives. And while they are still 13.5 games out of the National League East lead, they are just one game out of the second Wild Card spot.
If the trend continues, Mets fans can invest in Big Macs and McRibs to continue their team’s meteoric rise.
