How Cori Bush’s security guard’s ‘experienced’ husband ran a MOVING COMPANY before joining her $750,000 detail and has dodged questions about joining her campaign

Democrat Cori Bush paid her husband thousands of dollars to provide security services, but his most recent work experience is in the moving and railroad industries.

Bush confirmed Tuesday that she is under federal investigation for allegedly misusing campaign funds to pay thousands of dollars in security services, which she has adamantly denied.

Since being elected from her campaign account in 2020, she has spent more than $750,000 on security, including more than $100,000 on her husband Cortney Merritts, whom she married in 2023.

The progressive Squad member claimed on Tuesday that her husband has “extensive experience” in the security industry and he is ‘capable of providing necessary services at or below a fair market rate.’

But it was not immediately clear what training or “extensive” experience Merritts has in the security industry after his time in the military.

Merritts is the owner of a moving company called Vetted Movers, according to his LinkedIn account.

The company was founded in 2018 after Merritts served in the Army and worked in the railroad industry for 20 years as a former conductor and yard master. he wrote on Yelp.

“We are an experienced, owned and operated company. I have been involved in logistics for over 20 years in the military and railroads,” Merritts wrote on the company’s Yelp page.

‘Both taught me that working well and quickly is the only way to do business. Your items will be handled with care and packed, loaded or unloaded with skill and expertise. Moving can be stressful. Our job is to take that stress away.”

Merritts told Fox News in October 2023 that he did not work for Bush’s campaign, before backtracking and admitting that he was indeed working for her.

“I have no role in the campaign, man,” Merritts initially responded when asked about his role on Bush’s team.

When pressed, he backtracked and said, “I’m still with the campaign…I’m still doing security with the campaign.”

Bush was first elected to Congress in 2020 and is currently running for re-election in 2024.

Merritts has raised more than $100,000 since Bush added him to her campaign payroll in January 2022.

The House Ethics Committee approved an earlier complaint by the Commission to Defeat the President, which Bush said cleared her of any wrongdoing.

However, another watchdog filed an ethics complaint demanding an investigation into the money her husband received through her campaign.

The nonpartisan Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) asked Lisa Stevenson, acting general counsel of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), to investigate whether Bush “used campaign funds for personal use.”

The Justice Department on Monday subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms for records related to the misuse of private security funds.

When confronted by the media Monday evening, Bush insisted she was not the subject of the investigation and scolded reporters for asking the question.

But she changed her tune on Tuesday, issuing a public statement on the steps of the Capitol.

“Since before I was sworn in, I have endured relentless threats to my physical safety and life,” she told reporters at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, after confirming she is “cooperating” with the DOJ.

She added that as a “regular member of Congress” she is not entitled to personal protection.

Bush’s confirmation that she is under federal criminal investigation shocked both Republicans and Democrats, who say if she is guilty, she could be expelled from Congress.

“If she broke the law and is charged and found guilty, then obviously 100 percent of her should be removed,” Moskowitz, D-Fla., told DailyMail.com.

“Just like what just happened to George Santos,” he added of the disgraced former Republican congressman.

In December, the House Ethics Committee found that former Rep. George Santos had stolen donor funds to spend on OnlyFans and Botox and filed false election reports. He was later voted out of office by his colleagues.

Santos was only the sixth member of the House to be expelled by vote in the history of Congress.

“They should throw the book at her,” Tennessee Republican Tim Burchett told DailyMail.com. “It’s a ridiculous amount of money.”

“She hired her husband, who was not qualified to be that kind of security guard,” he added. “Well, I guess we’ll have to decide that; are we going to allow this activity to take place?’
