Queenie Tan, 26, posted a now-viral video on social media detailing the exact email template she sends hotel managers when planning trips away. In the clip she includes where she’s travelling to, the dates she’s planning to stay and asks if the hotel would offer her a discount

As some third party website charge a commission, which can vary between 15 and 30 per cent, Queenie said many hotels will happily pass on that discount to their customers.

In the clip, she begins by writing: ‘Dear manager, I’m planning to go to Santorini between X and Y, and your hotel came up and looks amazing!

‘I was wondering if you were open to offering me a discount so I can book directly through your website rather than going through a third party?’

She then concludes the email by thanking the manage for their consideration then adds ‘I’m keen to hear back from you either way.’

‘And don’t forget to follow up with them a week later just so they know you’re really interested,’ she said in the video.

Dear manager, I’m planning to go to [insert location] between X and Y, and your hotel came up and looks amazing!

I was wondering if you were open to offering me a discount so I can book directly through your website rather than going through a third party?

Thanks so much for your consideration. I’m keen to hear back from you either way.

The simple tip can help travellers save money when wanting to book their next trip, and many online praised Queenie for sharing exactly how she writes the email.

‘Thanks for actually showing us what to say!!’ one person commented.

‘When I did this in Santorini a few months back i actually got nearly a 50 per cent discount plus an upgrade. Really works if the place is touristy!!’ another person added.

A third wrote: ‘Most times I’ve just gone to the hotel. Or called them and asked really politely if they price match third party discounts, 100 per cent of the time they do.’
