A mother-of-two who once had an unhealthy ’emotional’ relationship with food has transformed her life after losing 59kg in just 12 months.
Brooke Hoggan, from Brisbane, tipped the scales at 118kg in March 2021 after giving birth to her son and struggled to ‘bounce back’.
The 29-year-old eyelash technician told FEMAIL she never exercised because she ‘absolutely hated the gym’ and turned to food for comfort, which led to rapid weight gain.
‘I have high anxiety so I really ate my emotions in food; I didn’t watch what I was eating or really care at that point,’ she said.
After visiting a GP she was diagnosed with fatty liver and gut issues, and the doctor said she needed to lose weight if she wanted to avoid serious health complications.
Since last year Brooke has dropped down to 59kg and fits into size six to eight clothing.

The 29-year-old eyelash technician told FEMAIL she never used to exercise because she ‘absolutely hated the gym’ and turned to food for comfort. After visiting a doctor who diagnosed her with fatty liver and gut issues, she opted to have gastric sleeve weight loss surgery on March 5, 2021
Brooke’s doctor suggested gastric sleeve weight loss surgery, which she went through in March 5, 2021.
She had three quarters of her stomach removed.
‘I was scared to get the sleeve, it was an emotional experience,’ Brooke said.
While the surgery helped her lose 20kg she plateaued and couldn’t understand why.
‘I couldn’t understand what was happening. Everything had been going well and them bam – no more weight loss,’ Brooke told news.com.au.
‘I’d seen people who could lose way more than me after having this done, so I couldn’t understand it.’
Brooke decided to join a gym and lost 39kg with assistance from a personal trainer.
The coach planned out a strict high-protein meal plan and each PT session was a combination of strength and cardio exercises.
‘The most challenging part was my relationship with food. I found it hard to adjust to how much I can and can’t intake,’ Brooke told FEMAIL.
Through persistence and determination, she managed to transform her look and lifestyle.
‘I’m beyond proud of myself, which is rare to say because I’ve never been one to be proud of myself,’ she said.
While the surgery initially helped her lose 20kg she plateaued and couldn’t comprehend why. Brooke then decided to join a gym and with assistance from a personal trainer she lost an additional 39kg
