How Anthony Albanese has been secretly trolling Penny Wong for two years on behalf of his daughters: ‘Shamelessly texting’

  • The young daughters of the senator pleaded for a puppy
  • He enlisted the help of his political ally Anthony Albanese
  • Prime Minister Toto’s cavoodle played a vital role

Penny Wong has revealed that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese relentlessly harassed her for two years while campaigning for her daughters to have a puppy.

The Foreign Minister is considered the prime minister’s closest ally in Parliament and one of the most powerful figures in the federal government.

Mr Albanese recruited Senator Wong with the task of introducing him at the Labor election campaign launch in Perth and again on election night last May when he delivered his victory speech.

Earlier, on election night, she was the only politician in the incoming leader’s Sydney home watching the votes in his favour.

But Mr. Albanese hasn’t always backed her, the Australian Financial Review Magazine released on Friday.

Penny Wong’s daughters (one pictured) enlisted the help of Anthony Albanese (left) to beg their parents for a puppy.

The senator’s daughters, Alexandra, now 11, and Hannah, 8, spent at least three years stalking Ms Wong and her partner Sophie Allouache over a dog. The girls turned to Mr. Albanese for help after his relentless pleas fell on deaf ears.

As a fellow dog lover, Mr. Albanese took the opportunity to plead the case on his behalf, spamming Senator Wong with photos of his cavoodle Toto.

“I campaigned for them to get a puppy for about two years before they got one,” Albanese told the publication.

“I was texting and blatantly sending them pictures of my dog, how cute he was.”

Senator Wong and her partner finally gave in to the girls’ pleas and, in 2020, welcomed their ‘locked up’ pup during the early stages of the covid-19 pandemic.

Anthony Albanese finally persuaded Penny Wong to have a puppy almost three years ago, a black Lab named Shadow (pictured)

‘Well, it’s quite hard to bear, I think it’s three or four years of non-stop performances since he’s eight now, almost nine, I think it started when he was four, going on to five. So that’s a lot of years,” Senator Wong told ABC’s Patricia Karvelas at the time.

‘So yeah, we’ve finally gotten ourselves a dog, a little black Labrador named Shadow, who’s busy tearing up our yard.

Three years later, Shadow is still a much-loved member of the family, which Wong says keeps her sane.

“Shadow seems to know when someone in the family needs a hug or a friend to play with,” he previously told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“If I’m on a particularly stressful call, he often comes over and nudges me in the hand.”
