How AFL fans can save a fortune on watching every match on pay TV with a simple hack – but there is a catch

  • Kayo subscribers are facing a price increase this football season
  • There is a way to not only avoid this, but also pay a lot less
  • However, there are terms and conditions to the footy hack

An avid social media user has discovered how AFL fans can save hundreds of dollars by watching every match of the 2024 season on streaming platform Kayo.

A Twitter account called ‘Pig Mentality’ has revealed that fans can save a lot of money by subscribing to digital memberships at their respective clubs.

“Currently, #Kayo costs $360 per year, increasing to $420 per year by the end of February,” the account said.

‘Most #AFL clubs are offering a digital membership, including 12 months of Kayo and some bonuses, for much cheaper.’

GWS Giants fans can save the most, with the cheapest digital membership package of any team at just $231 for the season.

Digital membership for most teams is around $250-$260, while Carlton and Hawthorn fans will have to pay the most at $280.

Currently, the Sydney Swans are the only team not to offer digital membership on their website, but that could change before the season starts.

Subscribers aren’t limited to just AFL matches either. With the voucher they can watch all sports offered on the Kayo Basic platform, including HD streams.

Additionally, the digital memberships include a range of other benefits, including discounts on club merchandise, scarves, pins, lanyards, bumper stickers and more.

But there is an important catch: you can only use the digital membership once.

“After the 12-month Kayo offer ends, the subscription will automatically renew at the standard Kayo price (currently $35/mo on Kayo Basic) unless the subscription is changed or canceled sooner,” the terms and conditions on the North Melbourne Kangaroos website.

Whether the option will be available or offered at the same price for the 2025 season remains undetermined.

You also need an existing Kayo account. You can create a new account, but if you have canceled an existing account, it will need to be reactivated.

“If you have recently canceled your Kayo subscription, you will need to undo your cancellation before you can successfully apply a voucher to your account,” the Kayo website says.

You also can’t use the digital membership subscription on Kayo One, the lower subscription package that limits the number of devices you can stream on.

Regardless, fans were grateful for the hack, with several saying they were going to take advantage of it.

‘Useful post, thanks. I didn’t even know a price hike was coming,” one person wrote.
