Tim Pieters and the rest of his Dutch teammates from the fourth division experienced an evening on Thursday that they will never forget, and it was also one that his twelve housemates will remember for a long time.

USV Hercules pulled off one of the biggest upsets ever in Dutch football when they defeated Ajax 3-2 in the cup, adding to the misery for the country's biggest club.

Pieters, an amateur who is also studying law, was on the scoresheet as his side overcame the odds to progress to the third round.

The attacker lives with twelve others, who all ended the evening the same way he did, despite the fact that six of them support Ajax.

It is revealed that they all bet €15 (£13) on him to score and that Hercules would knock out Ajax at odds of 751/1.

They each won €11,265 (9,800), making a total of €150,000 (£130,497).

Trailing 2-0 in Utrecht after 82 minutes, Ajax appeared to have saved themselves when Brian Brobbey and Chuba Akpom scored late goals to level the scores.

But Hercules scored the winner through Mats Grotenbreg in the third minute of injury time, after own coach Rene van der Kooij had given his team a two percent chance of victory before the start of the match.

Ajax coach John van 't Schip was not present to witness his team's capitulation as he is in Australia to attend his son's wedding.

All 12 of Pieters' housemates placed this bet that he would score and that USV Hercules would win

It is the first time that Ajax has lost to an amateur club in the Dutch cup. In the 29 previous meetings they scored at least four goals.

Ajax spent the first part of this season in the relegation zone, but has since climbed to fifth place in the Eredivisie, even though they are no less than 23 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
