The first teaser for House of the Dragon season 2 has taken off – and it promises to unleash a fiery and bloody war between the rival factions of House Targaryen.
Indeed, the first official footage for the second season of one of the best Max shows around teases an exciting second outing for the Game of Thrones prequel series. It sees Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower rally their troops, allies and fire-breathing winged beasts to strike terror at their enemies, and we expect many of the series' new and returning characters will be caught in the crossfire.
The trailer also confirms what we already knew House of the Dragon the season 2 release window – which means it's coming in summer 2024 (that's fall 2024, for anyone south of the equator). Unfortunately, a press release from Max didn't provide any further details on what to expect from the story of the second part of the series, so we'll have to wait for more details to emerge closer to launch.
House of the Dragon season 2 was one of the few TV shows not affected by the 2023 writers' strike, meaning it's also on track to launch in mid-2024. Next to his fantasy cousin The rings of power season 2, which may also be released on Prime Video in 2024, House of the Dragon was able to continue filming amid the bitter writers' strike because filming took place in Britain and the cast is made up largely of British actors, who are not part of the Screen Actors Guild – aka the actors' union that is also on strike in 2023.
