In horror ute smash, driver escapes but rear passenger burns to death after head-on crash in Sydney’s south-west

A passenger of a ute that caught fire after colliding with another vehicle has died, with the driver narrowly escaping the burning wreckage.
The fiery crash happened around 4.20am on Monday along Menangle Road at Douglas Park, 4km east of the Picton Rd intersection, in Sydney’s south-west.
The male driver of the ute managed to get out of his vehicle when it caught fire.
A backseat passenger was unable to escape and died on the spot.
The driver of the other car suffered arm injuries in the accident.

There were no passengers in the other vehicle.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are on their way to the scene of the accident.
Menangle Road has been closed by emergency services and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
There are road diversions on Picton Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
