Horror night on roads as two people are killed and two teenagers are seriously injured after a car is set on fire

Police are investigating multiple overnight car crashes in Melbourne.
The crashes occurred in quick succession in the early hours of Saturday morning in the suburbs of Beaconsfield, in Melbourne’s southeast, and Chirnside Park, in the northeast.
Victoria Police said at around 12:15 a.m. that a car on Old Princes Hwy crashed into a tree, killing a female passenger at the scene.
The male driver, who was arrested at the scene and is reportedly assisting police, while a second man was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At about 2:05 am, police said a car collided with two parked cars on Edward Rd, Chirnside Park before catching fire.

A 16-year-old boy from Montrose died and two other teens were seriously injured as a result of the crash.
Paramedics treated one of the male passengers, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
“The male driver and another male passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are assisting police in their investigation.”
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
In the 12 months to March 30, 262 people lost their lives on Victorian roads – a rolling increase of 10 per cent.
The sharp increase led to a call from the police to road users in February to be extra careful.
