Footage of the crash has sparked debate online, with many pointing to the mistakes of both drivers.

Some commentators believe the car is at fault, as it crossed a solid line and did not appear to be paying attention to its surroundings.

“It is illegal to cross a double/double yellow line, especially if you are leaving a carpool lane with specific entrances and exits! The car is 100 percent at fault,” one person said.

‘[The car] Come on, you don’t have driver’s licenses or anything? You can’t cross those double lines no matter what, and it’s not illegal for bikes to ride near the carpool lane,’ said another.

“Dude, not only is he gonna pay over two grand for crossing a double solid line, but he’s gonna get sued by the guy riding the bike. Bro, better cough up some retirement money,” a third person said.

Others said the cyclist was to blame for recklessly driving through traffic and trying to pass other cars.

‘I never understand why those bikers don’t just drive onto the side of the road in traffic jams. I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often,’ someone said.

“The bike. It shouldn’t be riding through traffic like that,” said a second person.

“The bike was going way too fast to be in traffic, it split the lanes. The bike’s fault… as usual,” said another.

Many said both drivers were at fault, noting that they had both violated traffic laws.
