A police investigation is underway after a man’s body was recovered from the Yarra River, meters from the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
The grim discovery was spotted in the water near the Banana Alley area of Flinders Street at around 4pm on Tuesday.
The man’s body has yet to be formally identified.
Victoria Police have yet to determine the cause of death.

It is understood police may have been looking for a man who had visited a local nightspot and had not returned home in recent days, the Herald said.
The area remained cordoned off on Tuesday evening while police and forensic officers scoured the scene for possible evidence.
Police have collected CCTV footage from businesses along the riverbank as part of their investigation.
