A transport worker was stabbed by a teenager in a shopping mall.
The 60-year-old bus security officer was patrolling bus stops at Robina Town Centre on the Gold Coast when he was stabbed in the hip at around 1pm on Wednesday.
Paramedics treated the man at the shopping centre before taking him to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
The man’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
There was a heavy police presence on Wednesday afternoon. There were many officers and detectives in the city centre and blue curtains blocked the entrance of shoppers.
A police spokesperson said officers arrived at the shopping center around 1 p.m. and found the man, but initial investigation revealed the perpetrator had fled.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
Police are reportedly investigating whether the attacker followed the 60-year-old man to a hallway between the parking lot and the shopping center, where the employee restrooms are located.

It appears the security officer was on his way to the restroom during a break.
The mall described the area as a “non-public” area.
Witnesses described how a young man allegedly attacked the man and then fled.
Martin Hall, general manager of South East Queensland and Tweed Heads Kinetic Buses, called the incident “very disturbing”.
“Kinetic is providing full support to (Queensland Police) and our team members following the assault on a network officer at Robina Town Centre,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“This is a deeply concerning incident. Everyone has the right to work safely and the well-being of the network officer involved is our absolute priority.”
Police have cordoned off a corridor in the shopping centre with blue curtains to conduct further investigation
The incident is the second serious attack on a bus worker in five months.
In May, a 68-year-old Kinetic bus driver was attacked on the Gold Coast and suffered a broken ankle.
Three teenagers were charged following the incident.
