The gripping trailer for Longlegs features a number of clips from the film, showing gruesome crime scenes, shocking acts of violence and otherworldly screams.

And horror fans who have already seen the full film have flooded review platforms with enthusiastic responses to the blockbuster.

One person on Mailbox wrote: ‘Longlegs is a scary movie. But not scary, like the loud music, cut to scary ghoul, audience gasps, movie continues… Longlegs is scary in the way it gets under your skin and gnaws at your bones.

‘It’s the festering wound in a place you can’t reach. A film that reminds you that evil exists.’

Another noted: ‘Unlike so many other mainstream horror films, Longlegs refuses to hold your hand.

It’s a chilling combination of Fincher-esque procedural film with classic religious fanaticism, and the result is something unique and nightmarish.

“It’s hard to replicate how good Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage are. Their performances are more of an experience – something for the horror history books.

‘Admittedly, these kinds of movies are my love language, but it’s been a long time since a serial killer horror movie was this good. All praise [director] ‘Oz Perkins.’

Someone else joked: ‘My favorite moment was when I left the theater and was standing in broad daylight, in the middle of the street.’

But the praise didn’t stop there, as another viewer said: ‘LONGLEGS is one of the best serial killer films in recent history.

‘The confidence that Oz Perkins exudes in his framing, atmosphere and pacing has been suggested before, but it is fully realised in this psychologically taxing police series, which steadily evolves into something even more sinister and otherworldly.

‘Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage are phenomenal, with the former barely able to stand under intense emotional stress, while the latter delivers a disturbing yet controlled performance that matches Perkins’ chilling tone.

‘A meticulously constructed and nerve-wracking descent into hell that will haunt your mind and soul.’

Director Oz Perkins previously shared with IndieWire: ‘I’m a little surprised that people are so afraid of it and find it so intense, so gruesome, so grotesque, so brutal.

‘It was never my intention to make anyone feel bad.

‘I don’t know if there are necessarily filmmakers who do that, but there are some people who wonder if their intention is to make people feel bad.

“I don’t like those movies at all. But honestly, I just tried to make something that was good and that people would enjoy.”
