A two-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in a school car.

The horror incident happened at Durack State School, on Inala Avenue, in Brisbane’s south-west, around 3.30pm on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and despite the efforts of paramedics he could not be saved.

Queensland Police said in a statement they are at the scene and investigating the incident.

“An investigation has been initiated and a woman is assisting police with their investigation,” police said in a statement.

The tragedy occurred at about 3.30pm at Durack State School on Inala Avenue in Brisbane’s south-west suburbs.

The Courier mail said it is clear the boy was hit in the school parking lot.

The newspaper reports that a corona van arrived at the school at 6:22 p.m.

Students’ families were allowed to pick up their children after hours.

The Forensic Crash Unit is currently on scene. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

Footage from the scene showed several police vehicles and an ambulance parked on the school grounds.

A woman was seen being comforted by another woman next to the ambulance vehicle.

Durack State School opened in 1960 as Serviceton State School before being renamed in 2001.

The school is known for its multiculturalism among students, who speak many languages.
