A young couple in Los Angeles was unexpectedly shot and killed in their parked car, while their one-year-old child survived after being shot and injured in the backseat.
Carlos Loera, 21, and Ashley Guzman, 18, were killed in a grisly double homicide when their child sat helpless in the backseat after multiple bullets were fired.
After officers arrived and found the couple suffering from gunshot wounds, Loera died at the scene, while Guzman was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The child was also taken to hospital for medical treatment and later released to relatives. The extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.
The suspect opened fire around 6:30 p.m. on Labor Day in Harbor City, a Los Angeles neighborhood.

The suspect fired several shots before fleeing the area, investigators suspect.
The gender of the child has not yet been revealed by police.
In May, the LAPD said that this year’s crime statistics showed that homicides were down more than 27% and shooting victims were down 17% from last year.
The Los Angeles Police Department is still searching for the suspect responsible for the murders of Loera and Guzman.
