A 40-year-old man has died after being struck by a London bus in an alleged ‘hit and run’ while the driver is in custody.
The incident happened in Hounslow, west of the city, just before 7:20pm on Saturday.
Staff at a west London hospital called police at 9:20pm after a man was admitted with serious injuries.
“Despite their best efforts, the man died shortly after arrival,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
A 59-year-old bus driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death for dangerous driving and failure to stop at the scene.

He was arrested and has since been released on bail.
Police say they know the identity of the man who died and have informed his relatives.
They are being supported by specially trained officers and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Officials investigating the incident are asking for witnesses.
The force said: “Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit want to hear from anyone who has been driving in the area and captured dash cam footage, or from those who witnessed the incident.”
