Horror as Mallorca reveler ‘squeezed to death in a garbage truck after passing out in a garbage bin on a night out’

A woman is believed to have been crushed to death after passing out in a dumpster while returning home from a night out in Spain.

Student Agostina Rubini Medina, 24, disappeared almost three weeks ago after a night of partying with friends in Palma, Mallorca.

Researchers found skeletal remains at a waste processing plant where her phone was last active in the early hours of October 3.

They say they believe she fell into a bin while trying to pick something up before losing consciousness.

Binmen arrived to empty it 15 minutes after a witness saw her purse nearby.

Ms. Medina’s phone went dead after their vehicle arrived at an incinerator. Police believe she may have died in the truck before arriving.

Ms Medina, a social integration student living on the island, went missing after going out with friends on Wednesday, October 2.

An intensive search has been conducted for a landfill where waste on the island will be stored, compacted and burned.

Police recently announced that they had found human remains in one of the tanks and had sent them to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Palma for analysis.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, which is still waiting for confirmation of a DNA match.

Police say that if Ms. Medina had been transported to the incinerator, it would have been “impossible to survive the journey in the EMAYA truck.”

The waste is compressed inside and there is little oxygen. It is believed Ms Medina was already unconscious when the bin was removed.

Investigators believe a combination of alcohol and medications she was taking may have affected her judgment before she ‘voluntarily’ climbed into a rubbish bin on her way home.

A witness said they saw a handbag next to the rubbish bin at around 12.12pm – about 15 minutes before the rubbish men arrived to empty it.

The waste was then taken to a landfill, where Ms Medina’s phone was last active at 2.59am on the morning of October 3.

There, trucks dump the waste in a large enclosed area with about 12,000 tons of waste.

The National Guard said it would take months to sort the waste by hand, and the buildup makes the tank unstable and prone to landslides.

The police expanded the search for a second tank on October 7. The tank is used to burn waste at a temperature of more than 1,200 degrees Celsius.

Skeletal remains were found in the second tank and investigators are still working to match the DNA to that of Miss Medina.

Police are still trying to piece together what exactly happened in those fateful hours, by piecing together witness statements and CCTV footage.

They believe a blouse found in the handbag near the rubbish bin at the bus stop belonged to Miss Medina, and say it is ‘highly likely’ she died.

An appeal for information revealed that Ms Medina was wearing blue jeans, a brown T-shirt and an animal print shirt before her disappearance.

They describe her as 1.6 meters tall, with brown eyes, brown hair and a tattoo on her back.
Deputy police chief Fernando Reboyras said: “She was a thin woman who had difficulty eating alcohol. This was made worse by the medication she was taking.’

Police said a witness who worked at a store that served Ms. Medina before her disappearance confirmed that she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Her parents say there was nothing unusual about her behavior earlier in the day.

Miss Medina, born in Argentina but living in Mallorca, is said to have been friends with Malén Ortiz Rodríguez, who disappeared without a trace in 2013.

Despite extensive investigations, police have never been able to determine how the 15-year-old disappeared while on her way to her partner’s home in Son Ferrer.

Miss Rodríguez’s family said they are helping Miss Medina’s family with “whatever they can.”
