A man has been arrested after crashing his car into a house before breaking into his own home and chasing his landlord and roommate with a pickaxe.
Security cameras show a Kia sedan speeding down an otherwise quiet street in suburban Lake Forest, California, before noon Monday.
A large crash is heard, as the suspect, whom the police have not yet named, drives the vehicle into the porch of a house.
Photos of the chaotic scene show the car mounted on a garden wall with the bonnet slammed against the property’s porch, debris scattered in the front yard.
The man – who has blood on his face – then runs to the house where he was renting a room on a nearby block and makes his way through the front door.
The motive for the man’s wild attack is still unclear.

Once inside the property, the man chased his landlord, Eric Li, into the backyard, where he bought a pickaxe which he then wielded at Mr. Li.
‘He is afraid. He needs to enter the house as soon as possible, but he entered the wrong access code, Li told KTLA.
“You can’t open the door. He tried to use his body to break in.’
He chased me again. So I crossed the street and asked the [neighbor] for help,” Li explained.
One of the man’s other roommates, who declined to be named, told KTLA that the suspect then chased a gardener into a neighbor’s yard before returning to the house and trying to enter their room with the axe.
Video footage shows the man hacking into the roommate’s door while shouting inside.
He hit it harder and harder. I noticed he was starting to get tired so I tried to find a good time when he might want to take a break from swinging the ax and when he did I swung open the door and kindly disarmed him,” said the roommate.
Deputies were quickly on the scene, arrested the man and no injuries were reported.
