Terrifying footage released by Los Angeles police shows a pedestrian being run over and killed by a driver while lying in the street.
The unidentified victim had walked into the middle of Western Avenue near the Vernon Avenue intersection around 2 a.m. on December 17.
Images show the man falling on the street. Police have not been able to determine whether he collapsed or fell on purpose.
The man lay in the middle of the street for a few seconds before a woman on the sidewalk noticed him.

Video then shows a car driving toward the pedestrian as the woman violently waves her arms in the air to signal for the car to stop.

Another four cars passed the victim after he was hit before the woman ran into the street to help him.
DailyMail.com has contacted the LAPD for comment.
In a EditionOfficials said the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
Once identified, the driver faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter.

The LAPD also warned motorists and pedestrians about the risk of speeding and reckless driving.
“Motorists are reminded to drive at a safe speed for the conditions; Speeding and reckless driving have serious consequences.
'If you are involved in a collision you should pull over as soon as it is safe to do so, alert emergency services and remain at the scene to identify yourself.
“The public is also reminded that as pedestrians they must obey traffic laws and walk in designated walking areas such as sidewalks and crosswalks,” police said.
