- Horrifying images show how a man fell at the Cabrapta viewpoint in Peru
- Miraculously, the man survived the fall despite being rushed to hospital
This is the terrifying moment when a man plunged into a ravine when an “astronaut training chair” suddenly fell apart as it was being spun.
The video begins with the man strapped into the apparently safe chair at the edge of a ravine at the Cabrapata viewpoint in Ayacucho, Peru – but it soon ends with him cheating death.
In the beginning, the person filming can be heard laughing and joking as he watches the operator spin his friend on top of the cliff with a panoramic view of Peru.
But as he continues to spin, the chair’s frame begins to wobble and suddenly falls over the edge of the cliff without warning.
The laughter in the background quickly turns into a panicked scream as the man’s friend disappears from view.

Despite falling off the cliff, the man survived the fall and is recovering after being rushed to hospital
The camera cuts away as the man falls down the steep slope – concerned onlookers fear for his life.
Fortunately, the man survived the fall, possibly because the frame he was attached to protected his head, according to local media.
He was rushed to hospital but is said to be on the mend now.
The chair is a budget version of the state-of-the-art Multi Axis Trainer used by space agencies to teach astronauts how to survive high-speed spins in weightless conditions.
The clifftop viewpoint is popular with tourists for its spectacular views.
Extreme rides and trails have sprung up in the beauty spot to monetize thrill-seeking tourists who expect amusement park safety standards.
Officials are now cracking down on all of them over security fears and have closed them pending security checks.

In December, ten people were killed in clashes over the impeachment of former President Pedro Castillo after he attempted to illegally dissolve Congress to prevent an impeachment vote he feared losing.
He was voted out shortly afterwards and arrested for alleged ‘rebellion’. He denies the allegations.
His arrest sparked anger from the country’s political elite and Congress, who have been widely reviled as corrupt and selfish, especially in Peru’s poor southern mining regions, where rising food and energy costs have hit people hard.
Protesters attempted to take over the city’s airport, which was defended by Peru’s police and military, but ten were shot down and several others injured.
